I am fairly new to SSDs, but have started to read up on them. Performance wise they do seem better tha HDDs. Thus I was planning on getting the base 320gb HDD with my R3 and they buying a SSD and installing myself.

To get the best out of my programs and games, will I have to have them installed on the SSD? Can I install them onto a HDD, while having Windows on the SSD? Or will doing this drag down the SSD?

All programs will surely load faster on an SSD, but a lot of games don't benefit from an SSD very much beyond that (unless the game/app in question reads the drive a lot, like most MMORPG).

Same thing with applications. I use autocad and revit for example, and there is a noticeable increase in performance with them installed on an SSD (more autocad) as drawing/project files are essentially huge databases that get read quite a bit as I work.
