I bought and installed a 920XM into my M17x R2, and it seems to be working fairly well. A bit of throttling (as already known by many), but I turned off Turbo and that stopped it.

My issue is that whenever I try to boot up my laptop now, it won't. I have to unplug the power (don't have the battery in), and then hold the power button for 10-20 seconds. I then plug the power back in, press the power button, and it will usually boot up. I sometimes have to perform the procedure twice in order to get it to work...

For now, I'm not too bothered by it. I try to imagine it as a security measure so that some rando can't just turn it on. However, I would like to fix this.

Anyone know what's causing this? Fixes? Suggestions? Thanks for the help!

That's weird, what PSU do you have?
Have you tried flashing the BIOS to the latest version?

Not sure what PSU I Have, how do I check?

I upgraded from A09 to A10 without any luck. I even went from A10 to the unlocked A10 from bios-mods.com still without any change...

    Thanks for the help.

I believe you are right about the 240w as the setup before was a 740QM and 5870m CF.

I have been researching as much as I can and am trying a few things. First, I am making sure all USB devices are unplugged from the laptop when booting (a cooling pad and a flash drive). I then made sure I left the laptop on my marble floor instead of my bed. I presently don't have the battery in and have the power panel off as I was installing items and the small clip that holds the power cable onto it fell off (plan to tape it on later). So when I booted, I held the power panel and cable together, then plugged in the power brick, then clicked the power button a few times. It then booted!

I am going to try the same procedure again after leaving my laptop on my bed and see if I get the same results. If I do, it looks like it may just be not having the power panel on before plugging in the power brick. My next step will then be to leave the power panel on and see what happens the next time I boot up.

disassemble bottom base and blow the laptop with as much compressed air as you can. 2 cans of compresses air or from a compressor can be good.

I have seen this issue with dust bunnies causing static build up and dell replacing motherboard twice not solving anything, a sungle blow with air compressor solved the issue permanently. It was in m11x r1.
