    Help Please,

installed a newly purchased GPU Gtx 980M and started it up, GPU cannot be detected but HWinfo and CPU-Z can detect it, on device manager it says Microsoft Basic Display Adapter.

Tried installing Nvidia Drivers but says cannot detect compatible hardware.

Did a DDU wipe of the Nvidia Drivers but the same.

Tried DELL Drivers for 980M and error in installing.

Tried to restart with Driver Signature Enforcement off and tried to install Nvida but same error.

Help please on how to resolve the problem.

    Thank You!

You need a modded file for the nvidia driver installer, as well as allow testsigning.

Check out the forum at www.laptopvideo2go.com you should see .INF files for NV driver versions. Get the matching one to the driver you have. Use this to replace the original file under c:\nvidia\displaydriver\.....

If you get it right windows will ask about overwriting the original. Hopefully you should now find that the NV installer can 'see' the hardware.

    Good luck.

There are some around but it's quite a task searching and replacing strings in the inf file. Much easier to use one someone had modded and simply replace the existing one. It will be in a folder titled Display_driver under c:\nvidia. They are version dependent so need to match.

When you download a new NV driver you have to run it once to create the files, it then fails as you already discovered but now you can replace the inf file and try again

No problem, it's not like you're supposed to guess!! If you got it right now run the install program, it should be in the folder above the inf folder titled display.driver (note the dot). Now it should detect your card and continue the install. I let it do everything from fresh.

yeah just go to the office today, I am helping him as I read this, haha

he didn't have the 980M detected because it needs modified drivers and to be in DSE mode (or windows will ignore, and only pretend to install and infact not do anything but waste your time)

Just use the link I gave you : http://downloads.eurocom.com/suppor.../Alienware/17_R5_05AA1028_9xxM_382.05_W10.zip

or if you need an INF mine is good for almost all laptops hardware, but it's an outdated driver - just grab the inf and replace it in the newer drivers.

http://cloud.alezka.com/Data/980M/378.49/ should be able to browse it and grab the individual file as it's not a zipfolder
