So I've updated drivers from 13.6 to 14.9 from here: Download Drivers

Everything works fine in dedicated mode, but if I switch to switchable graphics mode, it reverts to VGA after booting and says that the AMD drivers aren't installed correctly. Device manager also has an exclamation icon over the integrated graphics (or both the integrated graphics and the 7970m, depending on which mode I install the 14.9 drivers in). In the past I could just install the AMD drivers on top of what I already had and everything worked.

How can I install 14.9 without breaking the switchable graphics mode?

    Thanks.

Strange.. Switchable mode works perfectly for me... I've basically cleaned all ATI/intel drivers using DDU and then installed Intel and then Amd....

I tried what you said and it worked, thanks! After I installed both drivers I had to Fn+F7 a bunch of times to get everything to be recognized, but now it looks like both modes are working. Hopefully there should be no more problems.

If I am hijacking the thread, let me know and I will start a new one, but I think I am on a similar track. When I tried to run Wolfenstein TNO it told me I needed to update to at least 14.4. So, I assume I have less than that. I tried to run Catalyst Control Center, it puked with an error. I downloaded and attempted to install 14.9, no joy. It says no drivers installed, when I update the driver I think I end up with the version I started with. I downloaded DDU, went to safe mode and ran it, rebooted and both the Intel and AMD devices installed automatically without me doing anything. When I tried to update to 14.9, no joy. Do I need to update to 14.4 and then 14.9? I have not done this AMD/NVidia asininity in many years, so please be a little more explicit with instructions. I think I have read every related thread here and they are pretty poor. If the answer is these instructions:

Proper AMD/ATI Driver Install - Alienware User Support

I will do that, but DDU seems easier. Thanks.

*** I'm not sure I found the problem, but definitely a piece of it. I'm not sure I needed to update the drivers, but if I did, you need to make sure you are running from the discrete graphics and not the integrated. You press Fn-F7 to switch. You can tell you are in discrete mode if the Intel Graphics icon is not in the system tray. As I had already removed, cleaned, etc. I needed to reinstall and upgrade. I installed the AMD drivers from Dell and then upgraded using the 14.9 drivers from AMD. All good.
