So i saw i could get a 670m for around $130. Has anyone done this before? What would i need to do software wise? Could i still use the integrated gpu? Also i know how to physically replace the gpu so that wont be a problem. Thanks!

This thread seems to address most of your questions: http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-17-m17x/654010-nvidia-gtx-670m-how-can-i-get-install.html

Looks like the card will work, but isn't officially supported, so you'd need to use a modded driver. If I'm not mistaken (and from personal experience), when you go down the unsupported card & modded driver road, you no longer get integrated graphics. Your system will only use the dedicated graphics card and nothing else. I dunno though, maybe someone knows a way around that.

True, it's not officially supported so you may loose functionality of some features such as Optimus.

I thought also 3D screens have an issue as the 670M is not officially a card supported by the R3 (assuming you had the 3D screen, and I think only 560M/580M only work with 3D, correct me if I'm wrong).

True also, if the PC has 3D and you upgrade above the recommended ones you will likely loose that feature.
