    Hi,

I've got an Alienware M17x R3 with a 2630QM. I've just noticed this recently, when I play Team Fortress 2, I go to a crowd of people then notice a slight drop in the FPS. When I ran CPU Z, I noticed the CPU clocks going from 2300 to 700 Mhz every minute then going back up to 2300. When I checked the CPU temperatures, I noticed that when I was at 2300, the temperatures were at about 85C to 90C. Is that too hot or is there something wrong with the 2630QM? I've made sure only a few processes are running. Thanks.

I have a 2630QM and my temps never go that high when playing TF2. I would recommend cleaning your vents or re-pasting if necessary. My temps top out at the mid 60s mark.

As far as the CPU clocks going down to 700, I would check your Power Settings and make sure that it is set to High Performance. See if that makes a difference.

The CPU will variate depending on the needs, this technology is called SpeedStep from Intel; and is intended to save power.
As M11xdude said, re-pasting, cleaning and change the power settings might be a solution for you right away.

You could also dig in to the game, TF2 is not really graphic demanding so the issue could be also around that area. Have you tested other games yet?
