I was on these forums a couple of years ago when I was trying to figure out why the Intel HD 4000 driver wasn't working on my Alienware m17xR4. Needles to say, I discovered that the Intel driver doesn't work with 3D monitors. It's been a while, but what I remember being told was that the Intel graphics was disabled in the BIOS by Dell, no way to try and enable it without unlocking the BIOS, I imagine. I just lost my battery, it finally died, and I don't see any reason to buy a new one.

So, at this point my laptop is more like a portable desktop, which is fine. I was curious if anyone ever found a way to activate the Intel driver. I can't use the nvidia vision anymore, except with my TV, because my 675m card overheated and I replaced it with the 770m (it was a really good deal) about a year ago. l recently discovered that you can replace the screen. If I were to put in a 60hz screen, would that allow the intel driver to be "discovered?" Or is that a waste of time?

Hi, putting in a 60hz panel is the only way to get to use the intel. You'll need the correct cable as it plugs into a different port on the MB (same pin-out though so mistake is easy!). This is how the intel is bypassed/used.

The 120hz panel will not work with the intel at boot so any attempt to use it results in an unbootable machine (brick) :(.

Indeed ^^ The 120hz panel will only work with the nVidia card.

I had a feeling that it was a bad idea to try to get the Intel driver to work with my current screen. Nice to know that I could get the intel driver to work with the 60hz screen. Now I have to decide if I want to change it out. Comes down to how badly I want to use a battery again and if I will miss the 120hz. ;)
