I have had my R4 now for a couple of months, very pleased, except for one niggling problem, the N-2230 will drop the wifi connection after several minutes, no fixed amount of time, when it pleases it seems, when I am downloading binaries from usenet.
I had an XPS l502 before and the wifi card worked great with my Billion 7800N router, no other connections having any problems. I have had a good search around over the weeks for a solution but to no avail. Any of you wise gents have any experience of this problem?
I have turned off power management

Have you looked at what your connection strength is?

You can check it by installing the FREE inSSIDer program.

Also using inSSIDer find the least used channel or best one.

The Intel 2230 is 2.4ghz band only 150Mbps wireless card.

Disconnects and signal drop offs are common with this type of card.

For best broadcasting and receiving with this single band 150Mbps you should be close to and in line of sight with the router.

Your router security setting should be WPA2 AES if you're using Windows 7 or 8.If you don't have WPA2 AES then look for WPA2 Personal.

Once you get walls, floors and distance between the notebook and the router the signal strength with drop.

If your router is dual band and 300Mbps or higher consider a wireless card upgrade.
