Hi guys. My 4-month old Intel SSD just failed last night. It's a Gen 2 160gb X-25M. It was working perfectly ok when all of a sudden, when I was still in in Windows 7, there were errors all over the place reporting programs had stopped working. I tried to restart the system but it stuck at the logout screen with the alienhead light on indefinitely (ie not blinking, so i knew there was something wrong with the drive). I had to force shutting down the system, upon restarting there was an error message, smth like: SMART failure predictable on Intel SSD etc, please backup and replace etc, and not surprisingly, Windows failed to boot, even when I used the repair options on win 7 dvd, the ssd (with windows on it) wasn't detected at all. The drive came brand new with 02HA firmware installed by default. I upgraded to 02HD and used it for months with no problems.
Both ssd toolbox and intel rapid storage reported healthy condition on the drive. 2 days ago i updated to latest firmware 02M3, again, everything was completely ok, no errors whatsoever. Now disaster struck. Please help!

When a SSD fails, it is pretty much over. I've had several fail on my and although Intel has the lowest failure rate, it is still almost 1% per year. You'll need to RMA it with Intel.

Seriously? 4 months and it fails? I thought it could be firmware issue. Ironically the 02M3 was released to address SMART problems, according to Intel website. BTW the firmware update tool could detect the SSD on my system. Too bad it doesn't allow firmware downgrade
