    Hey guys,

I have heard that the M17x r3 screen (at 1920 x 1080 60 hz) is better than the M18x screen?

    Can anyone verify this?

    Thanks,

the m17x r3 screen has more dense pixels so the picture looks better? not to sure about what screen looks better as I haven't seen the m18x screen. The m17x r2 has the best screen I have ever seen on a laptop though, its a real beauty. ;)

    Dear tony,

Yeah i mean aside from teh more dense pixels haha..because the direct tradeoff is the larger screen size.

Is the m17x r3 screen comparable to the m17x r2 screen?

I've never seen an R2 before but I'm on my M17x R3 and this screen is absolutely perfect. I don't know how much better it gets than this :)

It depends which M17x R2 screen.
Most of us have one of the two RGB LED versions and they are comparable, this way R2 screen > R3 screen :D

    The M17x R3 120Hz screen is better than the M18x one :D

I havent seen a 60hz R3 screen but if comparing it to the M18x 60hz screen, the only real difference is in the 16:9 or 16:10 aspect ratio. Technically speaking, of course.

I don't know RGB LED, I saw it in macbookpro it was not looking miraculously better than R3 one. however I didn't see R2, but everybody is saying it is gorgeous.. 17" 1080p will look definitely better than 18" 1080p though

The MacBook Pro does not have a true RGBLED like the R2 as far as I know. I really hope we'll start seeing 2048 x 1152 screens soon for the bigger displays.

    oh ok thanks guys...

Stil a bit confused. So the brightness/color gamut etc of the m18x screen should be same as m17x 1920 x 1080 60 hz?

How about the m17x 1920 x 1080 120 hz screen 3D? I do not care for 3D but would the screen be of better quality in terms of color gamut?

    If I'm not mistaken, the M17x R2 = 100+% Color Gamut, M17x R3 and M18x have 72% color gamut.

The R3 will have a higher pixel density though.

The 120Hz screen has the same colour gamut but more nits of brightness. Also 120Hz is better for films. As most films are 24fps, this matches perfectly when played on this screen with each frame shown 5 times. On a 60Hz screen, things get stuttery.

What I would love to see in future revisions would be a true hIPS RGBLED panel....not eIPS or cheaper IPS panels. If Dell could stick in a smaller version of my Ultrasharp into the M18x, that would be......amazing!
