Is the heatsink for the 7970m the same for the 680m?

Actually, the GTX 680m is compatible with both types of x-plate although I wouldn't recommend it as the memory chips don't get cooled.

Would this perform just as good as the 680m in SLI (4GB GDDR5 total)?

If the M17x has the 120Hz screen, with vsync on, we can have up to 120 FPS, right or wrong?

Not a chance. GTX 680m in SLi has 2 processors not just double the memory there is no chance we will see twice the performance.

no a 4gb 680m is not as fast as 2gb in 680m SLI. The vRAM only helps with games that can use more than 2gb in textures. Even the m18x with 680m SLI can only use 2gb of vRAM.

Yes the m17x with 120hz screen can go up to 120hz, with the vsync it depends on what you have it set on.

Edit: Widezu beat me to the punch! :p

What's the different between Clevo and Eurocom card? Are they from the same supplier or what? I hear dthat the Eurocom card must use supplier's drivers, downloading driver from nvidia would not detect the card when installing.

The Clevo card works like the Dell card. No modded driver required and you can download latest driver from nvidia.

Are those things true. I just want to confirm for sure before I buy the card

    Thanks

I know the Clevo cards are better for OC'ing than the Eurocom cards. Someone told me the Eurocom cards use a different VBIOS that spits out a different Device ID that the stock Nvidia drivers don't recognize. Ergo, modded inf drivers are needed.

Even so, that's still overpriced, you should get it here instead and it comes with the heatsink, thermal pads etc.

    Link

You will be paying enough extra with import VAT to be paying a higher than necessary initial price.

So Clevo card is better, do you think? No need modded driver, it will just work like Dell card, plug in the m17x r4 then download driver from nvidia and play.

Only Eurocom need particular driver to run on m17x r4 system. Is that right?

I know that Eurocom cards need the modded inf driver to run on any system, not just the R4. I have asked several times over if this is the case with the Clevo 680m, but no one has answered me yet.

I have contacted HIDevolution.com they said the clevo card will work fine like Dell card. No need any modded driver. Just plug and play. That's what they said. You should ask them to confirm that's true

I didn't know they offered GPUs. Will they sell the Clevo 680m?

Yes they do, they quoted me for $750 excluding shipping. I'm very interested but have not decided to buy it because I'm not sure if the Clevo card is the same as the Eurocom card which require modded driver and vbios tweaks.

If the Clevo card works like the Dell card, just plug and play, I will buy it from Hidevolution with no hesistation.

Count me in. $750 is better than upgradeyourlaptop's $890...but they give you the x-bracket, screws, thermal pads, and thermal paste with it. All's I need would be the x-bracket and screws so I wonder how much extra they charge to include those.

According to the email they sent me, they only inlude stocl Clevo bracket and screws, no heatsink.

I'm using the GTX 675M but I'm not sure if the heatsink will fit on the GTX 680M or not. I really worry.

Should be compatible. If not, I'm sure you can pick a cheap 680m heatsink up from either eBay or you could see if dell would ship you one. ;)

No, I'm fairly sure it's the Eurocom card as upgradeyourlaptop is just Eurocom's ebay storefront.

From what I have read when using the Eurocom card the fans won't trip on normally and have to be manually controlled so I would watch for that just in case.

Does anybody out there have the Clevo 680m? They can tell us if the cards are identical. If the Clevo users can update the drivers using the ones from Nvidia, then that tells me the Clevo and Eurocom cards are physically identical, but each has different VBIOS.
