How does the Nvidia Optimus work? And does the M17x R1 (or R2) have the capability to get that technology?![]()

R1 has the Hybrid SLI which is the similar but older approach.
R2 doesn't even have Nvidia graphics to be considered.
In general, the technology is young and full of issues. I'd give it a couple of years to mature. -
so is the M17x even physically able to utilize the Optimus? Or does that requires an entirely redesigned motherboard or graphic cards?
What kind of issues are there with optimus? -
Not a chance it will work.

can i just rant for a moment?
people who look at the m17x and immediately ask about battery life and crap like this just annoy me.
seriously, get a netbook or an ultraportable, asus makes some really good ones.
Amazon.com: ASUS UL30Vt-X1 Thin and Light 13.3-Inch Black Laptop (11 Hours of Battery Life):
if you want a desktop replacement, the battery should be an afterthought - a backup power supply in the event of power loss, not much more than that. at least not until incredible advances are made in battery technology, or science gives us micro-nuclear power. -
Theres always the M11x if you want gaming and battery power. Truth is you gotta make compromises some where. I have the M17x for gaming and a desktop replacement, and M11x for travel.

M17x from Dell, 940XM CPU off Ebay. QS chips are available, since intel hasn't released the official chips yet. Should be here in the next week or so.

and just out of curiosity, were u able to get catalyst 10.5 drivers working with your 5870s? -
I don't have either yet, they are currently enroute. The notebook should be here soon, and hopefully the CPU makes it this week. I don't think it's really that much more power, just a little faster on the clocks. I'll be testing it out when I can get it installed. I'll bench it against a 920-XM that I also have.
Is Nvidia Optimus possible with M17x R1?
