I really dislike glossy screens during the daytime, so I wouldnt mind getting a matte screen(WUXGA preferrably) if one exists? If a direct replacement doesn't exist, any possible ones to slightly mod?

I did see that thread, but it looks a little too extreme, but I may consider trying it. One thing that I am wondering about now though, I saw someone mention in another thread that their Dell Precision M6500 has the same screen(but RGB LED), so I am wondering if I was able to source a matte M6500 screen, that i could just install that?

maybe maybe not if the m6500 screen is a LG you have to hope the r1 ccfl was also lg brand if not you will have to find an inverter to

i'm my self searching for a LG brand RGB led screen wich would make it possible for me to upgrade to a RGB led but i can't find where it's availible

I thought the R2 RGB LED's work in the R1? Can't you pick one of those up? Or are you also looking for a Matte RGB LED?

i don't have the R1 i have an older model so the screen inverter can't be excanged thus why i need to have a LG branded one for my mod

yes the r2 screen work in the r1 as long as you exchange everything that comes with the lcd panel along
because samsung and LG use different connector to connect to the inverter
but the r1 and the r2 use the same connector from the mobo to the inverter

Hmm so your laptop has a proprietary connector for LG screens so you can only use them? I know there are tons of LG screens on ebay, but im not sure how you can determine compatibility in your case. In my case on the R1 are you saying it's an LG or a Samsung?

I see this screen on ebay right now, but they don't list a brand:

    17.1"LCD SCREEN DELL Precision M6500 WUXGA 1920x1200NEW - eBay (item 160440660338 end time Nov-27-10 23:57:44 PST)

well the in the r1 you also have to exchange the inverter when switching from a lg to a samsung it's just that both inverter exist for the R1 since the mobo connector for the inverter are the same

my model only had LG screens for ever so no inverter is availible

I'll look into it the m6500 had both a LG and a Samsung screen if i recal right thanks for the link

EDIT this screen seem to eb the ccfl version if there was one for the m6500

Keep in mind that the E2E glass is what makes your screen glossy/reflective. The screen behind it already matte, so it won't help replacing it with another one. I'd google for cheap spare parts and get another lid assembly for experiments.
