I would question that, but if it does, I would think it's less the painting part and more the complete tear down and removal of *all* components part.

    Issit http://www.parts-people.com/ ?

Hmmm... I called my friend who works in dell said that as long as don't damage the motherboard, graphic card etc is okay.

Well , I did the respray, disassemble it and re-assemble it and i'm not satisfy with the paint due to the environment (wind blowing & insects). At least it still startup except it detected missing NVIDIA SLI cable which i've already connect it.

the M17x is metal so your best bet would be powder coating

BTW you can sand the laptop using 320 sandpaper to get rid of bugs and imperfections. Then just put another coat on

I still plan to repaint it to metallic white using car paint.

Hmmm, is it possible to do it after i sprayed the lacquer ?

I think you cant powder coat aluminum. Youll need to anodize it if you want it to look its best.

you can powder coat aluminum.. anodizing is preferred for aluminum because the metal is soft and where powdercoat or regular paint would flex and peel, anodizing would be more resistant to that. he said he is using car paint which has flex additive in it, this will accomplish the same thing to a degree.

the lacquer is already on an unsanded base, so sanding the lacquer won't have the same effect. the paint will stick to the lacquer nicely but if the lacquer moves, so will the paint. if you want it to adhere well you need to sand the lacquer off or use some kind of chemical remove to achieve the effect moo was telling you about.
