I have the 13.1 Mobility driver installed with switchable graphics disabled as I get better performance but was wondering if anyone has tried the desktop equivalent and if so, does it make any performance improvements on the card or change the fan behaviour?

I mention the fan because when running on dedicated graphics, the fan sounds like a hairdryer.

I haven't tried 13.1 mobility on mine but I can confirm that 13.1 desktop works just fine.
