Is it safe to buy K1NFP LED screen from Chinese EBay sellers?

I have read many posts here and learned that I can upgrade my M17X R1 screen to K1NFP RGB LED screen. I have been monitoring EBay auctions regarding this screen. The prices on EBay are in a wide range. Normally I see them in three categories:

    1. Sellers in China are selling them under $100.

    2. Sellers in Hong Kong are selling them at $129 or $139.

    3. Sellers in USA are selling them at $299 or $399. And in item descriptions they warn customers not to buy replica from China.

My question is that if Chinese manufactures are that good to duplicate K1NFP, or this is just the scare tactics to keep customers from buying Chinese who are selling the same products at much lower price.

    Thanks for your insight!

who is the seller? They have good rep?

    Pros:
worse case, its only $100...plus going through paypal will give you some level of purchase protection.

I buy lots of things from hong kong, but never from china. The hong Kong sellers are more regulated and legit IMO

    Something like these:

    Chinese seller
    Dell Alienware M17X 17" LCD Screen LED Panel & Samsung LTN170CT08-D01 J2CY8 | eBay

    HongKong seller
New Dell Alienware M17x 17" WUXGA LED LCD Panel K1NFP with cable & Hinge | eBay

    USA seller
Well, unlike this morning I saw, this afternoon the two USA based sellers have modified their descriptions accusing overseas sellers are selling replica. The power of Internet!

Its all made in China so is it really a surprise they can sell it cheaper? I have bought lots of things from China as well as HongKong which is now just China without problems. The main difference I have noticed is that Asian sellers will often get around tarriffs by marking items as gifts, obviously USA sellers are not able to do that in volume.

If it is a knockoff then you can be the one who gets the Chinese account in trouble. Another thing to do to root out knock offs is ask the seller a question that is direct and to the point is this an RGB LED. Is it an A+ panel with no dead pixel / uniformity issues etc...

I've had problems with "compatible" screens. Many legit sites sell screens for Alienware computers with compatible part numbers. This means the screen is not a Samsung screen, but really a LG or other brand screen which they claim to work.

They might work, but I've found on all occasions the compatible part numbered screens have different connectors for the video cable where it connects onto the actual panel. I had a huge hassle finding a genuine samsung screen when i was upgrading.

These screens you posted are labeled as Samsung. If they really are Samsung, then I don't see why they won't work. The first screen is an RGB screen judging from the Samsung part number LTN170CT08.

The second screen I'm not sure as you can't see the actual Samsung part number. He only gives you the Dell part number which I don't trust. Ask for the Samsung number off the panel itself.

I've bought many things from sellers in China like this. Honestly I've never been disappointed with the results, but I think I might just be lucky.

If you do this and it works, please let us/me know b/c I'll most likely follow in your footsteps.

If I could ditch this LCD 1200p screen fro a RGB one for cheap, then I'd be very happy. Tried it once before and had lots of problems with screens being advertised as things they weren't.

My K1NFP arrived yesterday. It only took 6 days delivered from Hong Kong. It is genuine M17X R2 RGB LED monitor, including all cables. And it is new, unlike other USA sellers selling used part. I am so happy and want to buy more since it is only $130 a piece. But I found out the seller has sold out all six screens. Guess good news travel fast.

About how to replace screen. Actually it is quite easy for M17X R1 and R2. (not R3/R4) because it is designed for user to easily change color of back cover. Just follow the service manual you can find on Dell Web site. I think the service manual is sufficient for the job. If you need more help, you can watch the youtube video how to disassemble M17X (4 parts, about 10 minutes each. You want to watch part 1 and 2 covering screen replacement.)
