Yes, but there are circumstances you need to anticipate.

You will possibly require another videocard to help you make the installation.

You will NOT have 3D working, this is cause I think it's simply not supported on windows 10 for that laptop.

You will be in dedicated mode, so you will have extra performance.

Have you read the guide I wrote up collecting tips for the 17'' line and upgrading to 900M's ?

I'm no professional guide maker here, but there are details to be aware of, so here :

About as safe as leaving all the doors and windows of your house unlocked. Some of that depends on your neighbors and what part of town you live in, but it is not one of the smartest things to do.

Go ahead and max out the Alienware, and use Windows 10. You will not be disappointed, just abit of extra understanding to make things work properly, just like when windows 8 came along.

    I have Aw17 R1, 120Hz screen but with 860m. I've upgraded to Windows 10 and all it works well. I didn't tested the 3D cause i don't mind it.

Be careful. Latest driver from Nvidia is known for bricking graphics. You will find information about this in the forum as well on the web.

Just don't use EVGA Precision or you will end up with instant brick. MSI Afterburner should be safe.

As for the drivers @Papusan is right.

It's not safe to cross a busy intersection. It can be done, but be careful and stay alert. Ignoring the danger can be fatal. And, be aware that the crazy drivers don't care about you, just as Micro$haft and NVIDIA don't care about you. Their agenda is to reach their destination and pedestrians are a nuisance. Customers are a nuisance to Micro$lop and the NVIDIOTS. Alienware and other OEMs are just puppets for WinTel BGA turdmasters, the Redmond Mafia and the Jolly Green Giant. Like dogs, they eat the table scraps that fall on the floor at dinner time.

Why don't you just go with the Win8.1 ? DX12 is worst it fails to offer performance boost over DX11 on nvidish!t cards and borked on real HW supported AMD chipsets and Store restricted with massive user access restrictions plus EDID bricking, black screen on 120Hz + maxwell + win10 newer drivers, need to downclock the display to 60Hz don't forget the Win10 - genocidal OS.

Go Win8.1 - nothing of above trash, Pure Bliss.

i have a 120hz and i can't even use it at all because it gives a black screen on boot and only dropping it to 60hz do i get it to boot properly.

I didn't realize you were still having problems. Why don't you go back to Windows 8.1 instead of farting around with W1ndoze OS X Malware Edition and all of its craptastic flaws? It will never be worth as much as dried out mouse droppings. All the nonsense and grief this crappy OS has brought to you has to be getting pretty old by now.

It's a shame to have to run a glorious 120Hz screen at 50% of its refresh rate. Even if it is not inconvenient at all, that would be unacceptable to me. But, if you're OK with that nonsense, I guess that's all that matters.

at least i don't have to deal with the iGPU and optimus: garbage it is! i don't think it's necessarilty Win 10 but nvidia being really bad with their drivers as 361.75 was the last known driver for it to work.
