Hello everyone, I am facing a problem with my laptop. I sent this laptop to Dell Depot to repair 2 times, but they did not replace the GPU, but they fixed motherboard instead. Here is the problem, last month i was watching the Youtube, then sudently the screen turned into many color then white screen then it froze there. I had to hold the power button to turn it off, then i tried to turn it back on, and then it could boot in to the windows but i saw alot of artifacts and the lines all around the screen( i will try to post the pic up), so i guess my GPU died, but i ran the diagnostic test in the bios to make sure, and it failed at GPU card test( i disable the Intel graphic long time ago by using fn+f7), so I called Alienware Tech support, and described the issue to a Rep. The first time and the recently i received the laptop back to them, they did not fix the GPU. When i got my laptop back, i did a fresh installation of Windows, then i installed the intel driver first, and everything looked normal, but as long as i installed the AMD driver, it stucks at Starting windows screen. If i uninstall the AMD driver then i can boot into the windows. And if i disable the Intel graphic by Fn+F7, i will get artifacts and colorful lines back again. Now what should i do? I did tell them to replace the GPU but they did not do that. Any Alienware Rep on this forum can help me? Thank you in advance!

Yup, sounds like a dead 7970M. I don't know how they did not replace it if the issue was visibly clear.

I guess they didn't disable the Intel video card to force the laptop use the 7970m when they were repairing. I don't know if i can request they put in the nvidia card instead of another amd or request a replacement laptop.

I just got off the phone with AW Tech Supp. They are going to send a Tech with GPU replacement to my house. I wonder they still have good AMD 7970m in stock. Anyone have experience with this scenario?

7970m, 8970m and r9 m290x are the same gpu so if they don't have other 7970m they still can use one of those i think.

I just checked the status, and it show "delayed". I think they don't have the GPU in stock. Should i call them to ask what is happening?

Yes definetly call them up.. If you don't chase them, they'll take their merry time.. if they can't get a replacement, make a fuss and get them to build you a new one.. They haven't fixed the issue 2 times by sending to the depot... Your in your rights to ask for a replacement..

You just call up 1800-ALIENWARE in the US... Check your local Dell/Alienware website otherwise.. In the UK at least, there is an option to have a dell call you when you click on contact a Dell expert... They will transfer you to Alienware tech team then..

I just check my support history&status, and the status is cancelled. So look like they are going to offer me an replacement. What do you guys think they are going to offer me for a equivalent or better value base on my current system?

Make sure they offer you a AW17 with a i7-4810MQ, 16GB RAM, AMD R9 290MX (minimun, although I would push for a 880M).. And of course full HD screen.

Do you know how to reach Alienware resolution team? I want to confirm this. Thanks.

At the moment i asked that i was working, and i have only 15 mins to break,so i wanted to know the right number so i could call them directly. But anyway, the technician came to my house today, and I was surprised that he had the GPU replacement. Honestly i would like to get newer system replacement.
