My power is charging, but there is a smoke smell coming from it. On my previous m11x, it had the exact same smell.

    Is my adapter in trouble?

Did the smell just start recently? If you're sure there's a smoke smell coming from the AC adapter itself, then I'd just call Dell and have them replace it under warranty. You don't want to risk your adapter catching fire or blowing up, as such things do happen on occasion.

The smell of smoke should be taken very seriously. The smoke can be poisonous.

This is not normal, you should get Dell to send you a new power adapter as soon as possible.
