    Hello all, is the Dell M17X R3 compatible with external 120hz monitors that don't have HDMI 1.4a? If so, is it possible to use it with the internal IR transmitter, but use the external monitor? Or will I have to buy the Nvidia 3D Vision Kit?

    Trying to understand what you are asking lol

    The 3D R3 comes with installed IR transmitter, the 3D version will output 3D to an ext monitor and the R3 has many connection options, none 3d machines do not have any 3D hardware installed so an external kit is required

    Let me elaborate. I'm referring to the 3D model. I have two questions:

    1. Is it possible to hook up the M17X R3 to an external 120hz monitor? If so, which connector do you use? 120hz monitors expect a dual link DVI output from the computer, but the M17X only has VGA, HDMI, and mini-DisplayPort.

    2. Assuming that it is possible to hook it up to an external 120hz monitor, can I leave the laptop lid open so as to expose the IR transmitter, but use the external monitor instead of the laptop display? Or does this not work?

    It's possible, use a Mini-DP->Dual Link DVI adapter...works great.

    And yes, you can use the internal IR emitter.

    Which Mini-DP to dual link DVI adapter would work with the M17X? The only one I've been able to find is the Apple one.

    (I too am looking at how to get 3D working with a 120 external, will, and if not, an HDMI cable work?)
