Greetings
I was just wondering because i started to think its game related?
interestingly there almost every game I played crashed at least once during playing, with crossfirex enabled that is
the games i have played and crashed at least once are
- Civilization V
- Darksiders
- Oblivion IV
- Two Worlds II
- Command and Conquer Tarbian Twilight
- Rise of Nations: Rise of Legends
the game that didnt crash at all till now is NFS hot pursuit. played one hour yesterday and around 30 minutes today with no crashes.
if there is/are game(s) you played and didnt crash at all using CrossfireX please mention them so i could try it if possible. also it would help if you mentioned your GPU configuration (drivers / VBios)
cheers
-
it seems that the only think in common is NFS which never crashed with me (till now atleast), will try to get my hands on Fallout and see wither the problem is with my games' tasteLol
btw what drivers are you on? Dell or Official ATI/AMD?
thanks! -
Me too Havent had any game crash till now... have played ME1, ME2, COD waw, mw2, black ops, nfs hp, mafia2, fallout 3 and nv etc... but the thing that bsods is when i play any wmv video via windows media player... btw iam using ati driver 10.11
-
Uninstall the WMV codec installation that is part of the 10.xx driver set. Once you do, the BSOD's will stop. -
Arkham Asylum, Civ V (DX11), Crysis Warhead, Dawn of Discovery, Dawn of War 2 Chaos Rising, Dragon Age Origins, Just Cause 2, King's Bounty Armored Princess + Crossworlds, Mafia II, Mass Effect 2, Oblivion, Portal, Puzzle Quest 2 (xD), Titan Quest Immortal Throne, Splinter Cell Conviction and Sims 3.
No crashes on any of these games so far.
Assassin's Creed II crashed a couple of times while doing the leap of faith, nothing game breaking though.
Bioshock 2 runs better on a single GPU (disabled crossfirex) but then I was on an older driver, haven't tried the latest drivers extensively with it yet, though the crossfirex issue seems to have been resolved.
Plants vs Zombies gave me black screens everytime I enabled 3D acceleration in the in-game settings, not sure whether that has to do with Crossfirex, but the integrated gfx seems to work better, as in no glitches.
A few other games have performance issues with Crossfirex enabled, most notably Lost World 2.
VBIOS: 012.020.000.027.037640
BIOS: A09
Video driver: atiumdag 8.763.0.0 / Win7 64

Civilization V will always crash after a while unless I find some magic windowed resolution and I'm below 150 turns. Just a buggy game. Darksiders I have been able to play without issues, as well as a few others.
I'm on the original VBIOS and the original DELL drivers. -
Strange. I guess I'm the only one who never encountered a crash playing Civ V. The only gripe I have is the black texture glitch that occur occasionally.

I've watched my nephews played the following games on my M17xR2 and didn't see any crashes or problems that some of the users are having,
1. Medal of Honor
2. Sniper Ghost Warrior
3. NFS Hot Pursuit
4. NBA 2K11
5. Deathspank
6. Black Ops
7. Lara Croft Guardian
8. Force Unleashed 2
They've pretty much completed the games (mission for FPS) and I've since uninstalled them -
I actually haven't had a crash in Civ 5 either...Unless I have Crossfire enabled (for some reason doesn't work with the 4870 cards except on some older drivers). but I also haven't had any crashes...played Dragon Age Origins, Crysis, Crysis : Warhead, Starcraft II...unfortunately however I can't comment on any of his other games (might try loading up Oblivion to see if I have any problems).

Last week I did a 12 hour long party in FFXIV... a power hungry game. no crashing. AVP 2010 dose crash once in a blue moon, but that is it.

Ive always had crash to desktop problems with BFBC2. Sometimes I can play for hours and other times it will do it in 30 mins. It does seem a lot better with the 10.11 drivers but it still has happened a few times. Now Im getting a single blank screen flash during the cut scenes, and occasionally during game play. Ill take that over crashing to desktop though. Seem silly to have to make a choice like that though on a brand new system.
Another thing Ive noticed during my eyefinity testing (since I was comparing eyefinity performance both with and without crossfire) is that I only have one game that runs better with crossfire. That would be BFBC2, all other games Ive tested so far run better on a single card. I never noticed because they ran OK in crossfire (never thought to try it with only one card), but I didnt realize how much better they would run (smoother and higher FPS) in single card mode. Some of the games Ive tested are BFBC2, WoW, Burnout Paradise, Sacred 2, HL2 (only tested with eyefinity though).
I know those arent the newest games, but hey if crossfire actually improved performance I could crank up the settings more. Note: They did run and actually use crossfire, its just they run much better without it.
Why oh why did I get a crossfire system if Im only going to use one card? -
Hey Red, how was that party btw? Fun? Engaging? Exciting? Just looking for any hopes of getting back in hahahaha

I'm reading the Anand review of the 580s in SLI and wow Civ5 seems to be poorly coded.
NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 580: The SLI Update - AnandTech :: Your Source for Hardware Analysis and News
I have the game but have yet to find enough time to play it. for those that have played it, is it that demanding?Unbelievable for the type of game it is.

Thank you everyone for replying
i got a good overview about the games crashing/not crashing thingy (although my taste of games seems completely different from all of you)
I have found some tweaks, but i hope you all could help me with it.
in the CCC, i used to put everything maxed on the quality side like AA, and Anisotropic Filtering, (the AI i put it on standard though). although the quality of the graphics in the game became really good i suspected that it is the problem of the constant crashing of all the games
so i put everything on the other side (performance), the games looked noticeably poorer, but i have yet to encounter a crash (havent played alot since i changed the settings, i will have a go at it after i finish work to confirm this).
Now what i need your help in is, what is the best configuration of the CCC - 3D options, and is putting the AA and Anisotropic Filtering maxed out related to the crashes I am having? note that am not having any FPS drops, just random crashes.
if so what is the ideal settings of the AA and Anisotropic Filtering? is it "Use application settings"? which leads me to another question, does Dell drivers have Application Profiles with it or we have to download the latest from AMD/ATI website? are the application profiles compatible with the Dell drivers? do i need them? does "Use application Settings" refer to the applications profiles or they refer to the in-game settings?
and one more questionwould you recommend the latest AMD/ATI drivers instead of Dell's? (not in terms of performance improvement, but in terms of having less crashes with games)
lots of questions and confusion, appreciate your feedbacks to solve the issues I am having -
I have found that most games that crash on me are caused by OSD. When I tried to raise or lower the volume, or accidently hit CAPS I would get CTD or BSOD. I now kill the OSD program before gaming and havent seen a crash in awhile.
-
Only gamesn I've had issues of CTD were BFBC2 and Two Worlds 2. But my CCC settings are on performance.

Most of my games have crashed on me - i use them to see if overclocks are stable. I think the only one that hasn't crashed would be Metro 2033 ironically.
-
Yeah, umm, Tiberium Wars from 6pm to 5am no crashes. lol, lan party!!! Otherwise, Saints Row 2 is super buggy and always crashes whatever Windows machine I install it on. Unreal Tournament also lasted a long while as well without crashing. Almost several days. 0 crashes. Lots of fun.
AOE 3, TF2 Online, both no crashes after several hours of play on my M17x-R2 Crossfire 4870s. -
I know it doesn't happen to everyone or else more ppl would be ticked off. I have had the issue through 2 windows reloads. -

sure thing =^_^= lol are you one of the many that gave up on the game with its constant problems? good news, it is running much better now :3
Is there a game you played continuously without crashing??
