    It is just pure frustration.

Online it is possible to find FULL LCD assembly with 900p screen and 1080P 3D 120HZ screen (less than 240 $) for the M17X-R3, but it is impossible to have a 1080P Non 3D 60 Hz assembly at human price, unless somebody wants to spend 700 bucks at Dell's store.

Is really impossible to make the 120Hz 1080p assembly to work with a Radeon HD 6870M (which is my card)?

Or, is there anyone that want to sell a 60Hz Full HD assembly, anywhere on the web or in this forum?

But, what is the problem? Won't power up? Black screen? White screen? Bad resolutions?

So I am forced to buy a GTX 560M and, then, to buy that assembly

What I can think of is that this laptop starts with the iGP and from what I know is that the iGP doesn't work with 120Hz monitors or that the iGP is not routed to the plug that the 120Hz monitor is connected.

I saw that with the modded BIOS, the iGP can be turned off, will this force the laptop to start with the dedicated card and plugging the 120Hz screen In the other connector result in a functional configuration?

    I can't tell you as I don't have a M17x R3.

The screen can run at 60 Hz to and all the routing is allready done on the plug/motherboard. Its just the screen.

It might work but somebody need to test it.

depending on what happens with dell and my m17x I might buy one of those 120hz screens. Then I just need to find an AMD card to test if it works with the modded bios to check it for you :D

An AMD card has already been tested with the system as is hence why i'm interested in the above situations.
    Just curious.

    Did you test that??

There was a thread where the Nvidia card on a 3D system was swapped with a AMD card and it didnt work. BUT that was a 3D system with no IGP. Missing some routing/connections??

Bigtonyman's system has a IGP so all the connections are allready made.

Theoretaclly the screen would work if all the connectons are the same as on a non 3D screen.

If it is possible for some members to make picture's of both the screen's connector on the motherboard and/or wire colloring so it can be compared.

Just need someone with a AMD card to test it.

@ Brabostaan: I know, read my posts again. Of course the 3D system has iGP, just not able to use it!

The point is the IGP cannot output to the 120hz screen even if set to 60hz. The 120hz screen also needs eDP which only the nvidia card can output through.

I see, didt know about eDP. Dont even know what that is.

Its just a screen why its got to be so complicated.

Embedded display port, makes sense now why 120Hz is possible 'internally'.

Yep, you can get a 460m, 560m or 580m, 120Hz screen and boom, you are good to go.

hmmm just plug and play like that? man there are plenty of 1080p screen but only the 3d one :(. Thats like a big middle finger to us who use amd.

    Dell Alienware M17x R3 LCD 17.3" FHD 1080

After reading around till very late last night, I may have to settle for the 900p screen for a few months waiting for the GTX 680M to come out and then get the 1080p 120z 3D screen.

We don't even know if the 680m will work in the M17x R3 yet.

yeah its still all speculations for now though I still believe it will work :p.

Though what I am more likely to do is look for a 580M when its cheaper (probably not) since I am quite desperate now that the M17x R3 screen is hard as hell to replace.

its not hard if you follow the disassembly guide and just buy a whole screen assembly and not just an LCD panel. the tech that serviced my machine had the screen replaced in a half hour give or take. ;)
