Is there a way to turn the display brightness on the M17x R4 below 12%?

When I go into the Fn-F7, the slider only goes down to 12%?

Probably not, you are likely running into the minimum voltage to keep the LEDs actually on.

Fn+F7 is the switchable graphics key on the m17x r4. Are you sure you dont mean Fn+F5? Maybe I dont understand what you mean.

I forgot to mention that I have an m17x r4 with an AMD card and the switchable graphics key only pertains to m17x 's with those cards, to my understanding of course. I dont know about the ones with Nvidia cards.

Actually, my friend also bought an Alienware m17x R4 for Sims 3 as well, except that she has Windows 8 on it. We found out that her machine's screen brightness will go all the way down to 0%.

So, I guess this is a Windows 7 driver issue. Too bad, I love Windows 7. Not a fan of Windows 8.

She has the same graphics card, drivers and everything as mine.

Have y'all tried the brightness display in the Nvidia control panel? It can be brought down to 12% with the Fn+F5 button, and lowered a bit more with the Nvidia settings (or at least I'm able to do with AMD Catalyst Control Center).

Nope, no options in Nvidia CP.

I guess the only way is to move to Windows 8.

Really, there's no brightness slider under Adjust desktop color settings?

    Oh there it is!

Just tried it, unfortunately, it doesn't seem to do much other than slightly distorting the color of the screen.
