My m17x r1 fans are so ridiculously loud. I've read around and it seems that everyone has this problem. I have a cooler master U3 but the fans still sound like the computer is trying to lift off and fly. My friends are always getting mad at me over the mic and complaining that it sounds like their is a jet engine in my room. I'm just wondering if there is any software around that can control fan speeds. Or if there is any way to just reduce the noise.

What settings do you usually run the fans?

Probably worth checking your temps. If your GPU is getting to hot, or your CPU the fans will go into high speed. Make sure your not clogged with dust etc.

    HWinfo is good.

*GUIDE* -Unofficial AW fan control- - Alienware Arena Forums
    Alienware Fan Control

these are two guides to hwinfo64 fan control applet (both unofficial), it can work, but based on which setting you use it can be very glitchy, i.e. cause your computer to crash, freeze, and possibly give you a bsod.

also your fans may be running because your system in older and hotter now, reducing fan speed (consequently noise) while your system is hot, may cause issues to your cpu and gpu.

Thanks for that. Is the fan set at 2000 RPM for 60 degrees dangerous? My temps usually don't go over 65 unless I'm having a very long game session.

Also with the hwinfo64 program I can only edit the first fan, the others are grayed out.

Test it out to see which fan control table works the best for you. You can always change it later.

You can only control all the fans at once; not individually. Set one fan control table and all the fans will follow those settings.
