My old M15x has died on me. I think its the DC Jack but its proven to be a bigger problem and might as well just buy a new motherboard "crosses fingers" hoping that fixes it.

As a result I've started looking towards alternative solutions. There aren't too many barebones or broken M15x on ebay right now so I've started looking at the M17xR-2 and possibly up to R-4s because they should have some compatiable parts(ram and video card since mine is a GTX 285m)

SOOO my question is for you my brethren in the M17x forum. Do you think it is possible to save this M17x and reflash its bios?

Be wary. Even though they say it's only the BIOS, they have no way of really knowing. Whoever sold it to them could have known it also has faulty RAM, damaged motherboard, etc. There's just no way to tell. You're right, it is an extremely good price, but at this point can only be used for parts. There may be a way to reflash the correct BIOS. Do a search in the forum for flashed incorrect BIOS and that will tell you if there is any hope for that machine.

I would rather get it from DELL or repair the m15x, but that's just me. :p If you need the pricing info for the mobo replacement you can send an e-mail to [email protected] with your tag and phone number and we'll get back to you ASAP.
