    Hey guys,
I am seeing about 41c idle and a peak of 64c during a Diablo 3 marathon. I am using stock clocks and stock paste. Is this in line with what you guys are seeing? I don't really need to adjust the settings in afterburner because I am satisfied with its performance, but if I did, what have you experienced as the most stable?

That sounds incredibly cool even compared to my older GTX 460M. o_O If that's what you get under full load, then YES those temperatures are perfectly fine. XD

Wow... my 6970M overheats if left @ 100% load too long... :(

As for Afterburner, I've seen people hit stock clocks for the desktop 7870 and it appears to perform just as well. I'd say 950/1300 is what I've personally seen the most. 3rd person perspective here... sorry...

yes normal temps, do not re-paste unless it's worth it but in you're case skip it, you're good to go. lift up back and of laptop with some bottle caps and temp drops another 5c for free.

Those are good temps for stock...looks like dell really is using good paste now.

All cards are different so your overclock could be different from others...but for me, on demanding games, i run 950/1400 everyday. On Diablo3, I run stock clocks because i'm already getting 100+fps @ 1080p maxxed

I don't have this issue, but perhaps you should post this in the software gaming forum for a prompt answer.

I gamed D3 yesterday for 3 hrs on patch 1.0.3 and it didn't crash for me. i had 5 stacks of nephalem valor

My system is hitting 80 max after an hour of diablo 3 on Max settings. I use HWMonitor to see this. Why is mine so much more? I even have IC Diamond

It's your room's temperature ! the most important factor that decided ur temp, and ppl forget it all the time when they do the comparing.

Wish mine would run at 41'C idle, lol. Only my hard drive runs at that temp, even the SSD is at 47'C. The CPU and GPU stay at around 53-55 when idle, 67-68'C under load. I think that's superb, but if only it stayed lower when idle...

My card overclocks to 965/1460 I think, and that's really pushing it hard to the point where I don't want to increase 1Mhz lol. I haven't reached the point where it crashed running a benchmark, maybe I will test that at some point today or tomorrow. But while gaming I leave it on 920/1420 now. That's perfectly stable and I get 55-60fps on Battlefield 3 maxed out. Couldn't ask for more :D

And like everyone correctly pointed out, ambient temperatures matter a lot. My dorm room without an AC gets my GPU reaching 68'C on load, but when I'm at work the AC seems to help bring it down to 65'C on load. that's really good imo. idle goes down to 49 or so. Waiting for the winter :D lol

Hmm. I'm disappointed that mine has reached 80 in both my gaming experiences (diablo 3 maxed).

Add: after the first time I launched diablo 3 a box popped up that took me to a place to change the settings for video to "high performance" which I did, which I think is how you activate the 7970m, right?

So when looking at HWMonitor it lists my gpu as "intel hd 4000" and shows the temps for that, which fluctuate as I play Diablo 3, and slowly decrease once I minimize the game. I'm assuming even though it says intel hd 4000 that it's referring to the 7979.

Am I supposed to limit the 7970 to 60fps, if thats even possible? Or am I forgetting something else maybe?

    I am a noob, sorry

Try hitting F7 and switching to your 7970 before you open HWMonitor. After this you should be able to play a game with HWMonitor still open, and check your temps on the 7970 (this will assure it's reading the 7970 ...that and HWM should say 7970). I seem to be getting 68 max after a few hours of BF3 at room temp.

im running my 7970m @ 900/1300 with the 1.075vmod, im also using a coolermaster sf-19, my idle temps can go as low as 34ºC and the highest ive seen the card hit was 68ºC after a few hours of diablo 3, window air conditioner and its about 65-67ºC ambient, i recommend getting a laptop cooler, i hear the coolermaster notepal u3 is a nice option, but i was looking for more of a docking station as i really dont take my m17xr4 anywere, i bought it to play games while i lay in bed lol
