Have the chance to pick this laptop up tomorrow for $1400. It's from a dell reseller and in mint condition with the one year warranty intact.

    Specs:

    Alienware M17x R4 Ultimate Gaming Laptop ($2,500 Retail), Intel 3rd gen Quad i7 2.3ghz (3610QM), 17.3"WUXGA LED TFT (1920x1080 60hz, 1080P, Full HD), 2Gig DDR5 Nvidia Geforce GTX660M , 12Gig DDR3 Ram, 1TB, BluRay Reader/DVDRW, Lan, Wireless-N, Bluetooth, 9 Cell Battery, Windows 7 Home Premium

Is $1400 a good price, a great price, or about average? Seller won't budge, so it's either 1400 or nothing and I need to decide.

Thanks in advance for any input

No, the 660m is weak for that price. You can get lenovo laptops with those specs for around half that price. I would buy straight from alienware. I got my m17x with 7970m for $1700.

If you plan on using this for gaming then don't get the 660m , it may handle some lower games but if you plan on playing newer stuff like BF3 or anything of that calibre then you will regret it. A higher GPU like the 7970 and or 680 will also future proof the system for a lot longer.

+1 for going with a flagship GPU. Make sure you get the best screen upgrade and GPU you can. you can always upgrade the rest down the road. GPU's are expensive and you get the best bang for your buck if you buy the GPU you want when you buy the system. ;)
