Don't buy a 670m or 675m, they are both just rebrands of the 570m and 580m respectively. If you want a bit more horsepower than the 660m without the price of a 680m, look either at the 670mx or 675mx, which are real kepler cards, not fermi rebrands (assuming you want to stay with nVidia). Of course, there isn't official support on the R3 for anything other than the 460m/560m/580m from nVidia and the 6870m/6970m/6990m from AMD- but I believe people have gotten the 7970m and 680m working. Remember- the chance that someone else on NBR will have attempted the mod you are looking at is in direct proportion to the performance benefit, and a 670mx/675mx just aren't that high...

    Alright, would a 660m for $150 be a significant enough upgrade from a 460m?

nah it's not really worth it. Look around and see if you can find a 6990m or 7970m for cheap if you are looking to keep the price down. 6990m is twice as fast as a 460m and a single 7970m is faster than x2 6990m's in crossfire. All comes down to how much you wanna spend. ;)

Here's a thread where someone got the 670m working in their R2:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m17x/689132-670m-working-perfectly-m17x-r2.html

So, THEORETICALLY, it should work in your R3.

But as Tony said, the 7970m would be the wiser choice. Twice the price as the 670m for 4 times the speed. Definitely something to consider. Be aware, there are certain things you need to do to get the 7970m working in your R3 (disabling the integrated graphics, installing the thermal pads correctly). Here is the thread that details how to install the 7970m in your R3.
