when i bought the alienware m17x i didnt configure the wireless card, so i have the Wireless 1520 802.11n Half Mini-Card ...
and i'm considering to change it to Intel® Ultimate N WiFi Link 6300 a/g/n 3x3 MIMO Technology is it worth for me to change it...
by the way, can i asked DELL to change the wireless card ?
Thank You

The Intel card will possibly hold the signal a little farther than the dell card but otherwise you'll never know the difference.

The wireless card is going to depend on what you do with the machine in gaming, if you're playing alot of online gaming like MW2 multiplayer and aren't able to hook up to a hardline then yes it's very important. If you're only playing the standard "campaign" type games that don't deal with the internet at all it doesn't matter. And yes you can ask Dell to change the wifi card just keep in mind they won't do it for free you will have to pay for the other card and for the tech's time(about $85/hour USD where I am).

The n6300 is much faster, I changed mine very easy to do. The card needs a 3rd wire and yes it is there a gray next to the card and in a holder. Bought mine here on the forums from Babyhemi very good guy shipped fast 1/2 the cost.

About the upgrade, is it just a simple disconnect some wires/reconnect some wires? Also, is it easy to get to? I was thinking about upgrading.

Yes its very easy. Its under the palm rest. You just undo the wires (they pop off) and then unlatch the card just like a memory module and then put the new one in and hook the cables up.. Thats it.. Super easy and from start to finish was under 5 min for me.

I have the half mini card. I see no difference in performance over the Intel card on my other laptop.
The benefit is going to be on distance from the router but if you don't tend to stray far from it you'll never have a problem. -
The Ultimate N contains special optimizations( reduced latency is speculated, but Intel isn't specific what these 'optimizations' are), a third antenna and dual band mode/longer range. It supports up to 450mb/s send/receive which is up from 130mb/s send 300mb/s receive in the 1520. You also get Intel mywifi technology, which allows wireless devices to connect to your wireless card. If you play online games with any regularity, the Ultimate N is a very good $60 spent. otherwise, the 1520 is a perfectly capable card.

Also remember that you need an access point that can send at those increased speeds. If you got just a wireless G router, you're not going to notice a difference.
