Hey All, I purchased a 7970 from Eurocom, to replace my two 4870s in my M17X R2. Got the card installed according to instructions read on this site, and the instructions that Eurocom provides. After installing the card, I immediately noticed that the system would inform me that an unsupported power supply was plugged in, there was also a white flashing of my screen at the post screen. I was able to get past the white flashing by unplugging the batterly and power supply, and hit F1 to continue from the power supply warning.

Once the system was in Windows, I installed the drivers supplied by Eurocom, and the system began continually locking up as soon as Windows would begin to load. Both of these issues were continual, and they both went away after reinstalling the 4870s. I obviiously had to reinstall my drivers, but all worked fine after that, including the unsupported power supply issue.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can try to see if everything will work with this card, or if I recieved a bad card? Thanks a lot everyone!!

Was working for me when switched from dual 4870 to 7970 and I have had the latest bios that time (I think A9). I used Eurocom drivers and then switched to the latest ATI (12 something).
Now I have switched do mod bios A10 and fully reinstalled win7. Try this way maybe.

    Hello,
You probably have same issue i was having, and @rsgeiger

    this is oryginal post
    [M17x R2] with AMD 7970M CrossfireX - Page 6

and this is my post about the same issue with 7970m

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m17x/694935-7970m-dead-m17x-r2-help-please.html

Basicly, if you will not re-flash the card to the vbios i attached, you will end up frying your LCD, or whole laptop....

This flash should be performed if you have ''eurocom'' branded card, like i have, and rsgeiger.

Flash on your own responsibility though.

    and...good luck :)

Well, I believe I fried my RGB, as you just stated. I was on the phone with Eurocom support and was told to try reinstalling it, and boot without the battery installed and turn off turbo. I put the card back in, and booted up, screen would only go white. So, I removed the card, reinstalled my 4870s turned back on, and screen still only goes white. I cannot get any picture, including post, onto my screen, just solid white. Guess buying that extended warranty was a good idea after all. Onto calling Dell, I guess.

Flingin did you have to replace the RGB and MOBO as well? Did Dell send you the parts to replace yourself, or did they actually put them in? Eurocom is going to send me an RMA, and test this card, so we will see what happens from here. They have been great to work with thus far, especially Kevin who has been really helpful. I know my screen is gone, but not sure about the rest of the system.
