    Hi all,

I have been struggling with the issue in the title ever since upgrading to windows 10. It took me a long time to figure out and you can't really find the solution by googling. Due to this, I thought I would post how I fixed it.

If I started my laptop up cold, wifi would work but you wouldn't see the icon in the bottom right. I could control sound through my keyboard buttons but I couldn't click the sound taskbar icon to see what current volume level was. I was also having issues with file explorer and google chrome opening (took c.5 minutes to open). Lastly, windows update would continuously search for but never find updates.

If I rebooted my laptop after starting up for the first time - everything would work normally.

The way I fixed this was by turning off "fast startup" - see link http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/4189-fast-startup-turn-off-windows-10-a.html (I followed option 1)

I did this 5 days ago and have no issues with starting up from cold since!

    Hope this helps,

I personally would just make a USB installation media and do a clean install of W10.

I had a ton of issues when initially upgrading from Win8.1 to Win10 on one of my laptops (my work laptop, not the one in my sig). I ended up formatting my HDD and doing a clean install of Win10 which resolved all the issues I had faced previously.
