Issues running MW3..can anyone help

Hi Folks!
I am new here and in need of some help..so I am running MW3 on every low setting and I have some terrible video lag..I get the same thing in Tribes Ascend as well. I cannot even run BF3 I am posting my system specs below..I was wondering if there are thing I need to do in the bios or system settings to make this run better..Please treat me like a noob so no information you can give should be taken for granted..like drives and power settings..maybe some info on over clocking my 460M GTX...

I would think this laptop should run MW3 fairly well..I run Black OPS with no issues as well as BF2 BC.....but with the 3 new game the lag in game especially when I am in a mluti person fire fight is just unbearable..I was say at points I am getting around 10FPS..which is just un playable,,let me know if there are some best practices I should be doing in terms or modification, updates to get the most performance out of this system..TIA...Oh I priced out the 6690M from ATI today with dell....$GB video card for 650 bucks!!!!! I just cannot justify dumping another 700 in this system..maybe I could of built a killer system for 2K or hell 2700 with the upgraded video card..

you make sure you are running it on the Discrete GPU and not the IGPU?

 

No I have not made sure of that. I think I get to that setting from the desk top correct (RIGHT CLICK)?

 

no you have to white-list steam. right click on steam and go to graphical options. Make sure this is set to discrete GPU, not integrated.

 

Wow I didnt know this..does it default to the IGPU? Now what would I do for non steam game? or is/should that be a setting for all game executables?

Well with the performance you are getting, it seems like is has been defaulted to the igpu.
as to other games,just right click on the shortcut on the desktop and make sure its set to the discrete card as well.

 

I will try this as soon as I get home..but based on specs MW3 should run well on my laptop correct..or no? I couldnt even get BF3 to install..something about shaders..I was actually able to get a refund from Origin (kind of like steam)

 

both BF3 runs alright on my machine and MW3 Runs maxxed out at 60FPS. I don't know the exact issue that's occurring for you but they should both work fine.

Hi BigTonyMan...I just wanted to say THANKS!!! This was exactly the issue..I am able to run MW3 without any lag or video hesitation as well as the New Tribes Ascend from Hi-Rez studios...I never realized that this was an option as I usually build my own machines and they only have dedicated graphics cards..there was no IGPU...I bet that was probably the issue with installing BF3 as well since I had to install the origin client in order to install..origin is like Steam..I bet it was set to the default IGPU. THANKS AGAIN!!!!
