    Hello all,

    Long story...

System has a 6970m in it, temp sensors died, fans won't start overheats, system shuts down..

Support sends out a Nvida 580m to replace it, woo hoo upgrade right?

Well no, tech installs it, and 7 beeps of doom. Call up Alienware they send out another 580m. Tech installs it, 7 beeps of doom. Again putting in the old 6970 works system boots and I can run that till it overheats or switch to the intel graphics.

Any ideas? For some crazy reason the tech can't talk to Alienware tech support and the guys he can talk to don't seem to know anything and keep telling him to have the customer (me) call back AW support. Heck the first time the Dell person he talked to said the card wasn't compatible with the M17x r3 and about lost my mind!

Could it be a BIOS issue? I have A10 could there be a setting that needs done before the switch?

    Thanks all for any help!

Have you tried resetting the bios and uninstalling drivers before you install the new card?

Try the latest Bios available for that machine on our website. Also make sure you load the Bios defaults after you do that so that any changes are reverted. If the issue persists please send us an e-mail to [email protected] with your tag, phone and a brief description of the issue and we'll get back to you ASAP.

Thanks all, the tech with the new card already left, after speaking with AW tech support again, they are sending out a new mobo, and video card. So hopefully that will work.

Update, video card 3, and new mobo, still 7 Beeps on reboot, the only things not changed out are the ram and cpu at this point really.

Ok, I got it working. Good thing I convinced him to leave the card with me. I am not positive, but I think he was putting the backplate on wrong. Well either way I got it up and running!
