Hello All,
I know there has been a few posts about if people will see a performance boost, where to buy the best, what to do when we get them, how to install etc etc...
My question now is, what have been the issues people have had with these. As my current setup is working quite well, I don't want to risk breaking it...Or installing the new proc to have it die on me in a week...I have hired a Dell tech (who is really good and doesn't break things) to install the processor (no comments please just feel a lot more comfortable with someone else doing this)

I can see you have read alot of the posts here about the 920XMES units...
I think the lack of posts about problems with them kind of speaks for the processors... But then again it could change 6-12 months down the road..
But up until now I think the lack of "problem/complaint" posts should answer your concerns. -
920xm is a great processor and shines in cpu intensive tasks like encoding, rendering, or games that are poorly optimized like GTA or quad core hungry like BFBC2. The heat that is generated from the processor is quite high and unless your tech knows how to do some sort of mod to increase the surface contact area with the cpu die and increase retention you will be close to thermal limits. if you are happy with the 820qm and do not care about the 920xm aside from the OC aspect of it stick with the 820qm and your laptop will be cool running's

If I am not happy with the 920 I will put the 820 back in and sell the 920 at a very reasonable price...winks -
Use coffee filters to perform your rub in unless you have plenty of microfiber cloth laying around you dont mind ruining...
Coffee filters work great and leave no fibers behind. -
If you are not going crazy OC then you will be fine and just make sure you have the latest BIOS and once you get the chip installed experiment with throttlestop and you will quickly find out where a sweet spot for performance and heat is for your laptop. Using wprime v1.55 for benching and set it at 8 cores on 32m tests and use throttlestop to adjust multipliers and tdp/tdc. I would set all cores to 24x multi and stock tdp/tdc is 62/62 you can need to find a good setting which is different for every chip and a setting like 85/70 or 90/75 is a good setting but again once you get it try to find the bare minimum amount of power to get the chip stable and running cool because any more power is just being wasted into heat. Only time you run into heat issues is when you are pushing lots of power and running all multipliers cranked up and benching. In real life usage with a good paste job and a cpu cooler underneath like cryo lx you will have no issues and have extreme flexibility for OC or Underclocking. -

I have not had any issues with my ES 940XM nor do I recall hearing about any from anyone else.
From what I can tell, problems with these machines rarely stems from the CPU. If you have trouble with your m17xR2 it is far more likely to be video card related. -

It eats Mafia 2 alive too as long as I don't enable in-game Physx.
Issues with ES Processors???
