Hi guys... i installed a brand new version of win7 on (DELL OEM SAMSUNG 830) ssd..and left my default installation of the Pro on my HDD as it is..so i had to physically mention which drive i wanted to boot from so that i had a fresh installed OS on a drive that i liked

So followed all the clean install instructions on NBR, howeversince this was an AHCI installation and i wanted nothing to do with RAID and accelerate options from intel i disabled the accelerate options in the default Dell installation and allowed y msATA to exist as a separate drive, but it seems that even though the intel RST drivers (on my win7 installation on the SSD) recognise the drive in its own software, i cannot visualise it in my OS or the OS that Dell has installed.

    Any idea why?

also back in the day when i had the R3...the Free fall program could be disabled in MSCONFIG (so that i didnt have to see a problem in the Dev.manager) but the version that came with the R4 doesnot seem to have any service that i can recognise in the startup or services for that matter....can you help me disable it in Windows...

    your help will be appreciated

Why would you disable the free fall? just install the drivers for it, shouldnt come up unknown on device manager then. mSATA wise go to disk utility and format the msata it will and then assign the drive a letter so the os can write to it.

yes but apparently FreeFall causes a undue write cycles on an SSD, and i don't really need the FF protection on my SSD installed OS

oh and my mSATA conundrum, just solved itself....basically since i had accelerated the HDD in the Dell supplied installation (under cover of RAID although the drives werent actuallt RAID'd), the msata was made up as cache as a result once i disabled the RAID the drive appeared in normal AHCI windows

so guys one qs left how to properly disable the FF program without uninstalling it and forever having the unknown device

Easiest way would be to uninstall it i guess. If you cant find it in the msconfig, have to leave mine on since still got a HDD and SSD in mine. I wonder if the new free fall software notices when there is a SSD.

Hi, I'd be surprised if it caused any unwanted writes, the way I understood it to work was it monitors the accelerometer, and sends a 'park' command to the HD, which an SSD would ignore. I tested it by playing some music off my HDD and moving the laptop sharply. Music breaks up but does not if I disable the device.

If you really don't want it (but don't want an unknown device) just install the driver then disable it in device manager. :)
