So lately I have been having some problems with my laptop, and i think they relate to GPU drivers, as generally this has happened after I install a new one. What happens is if I unplug it from its power source, even if it is off, I have to remove the battery and hold the power button to get it to run properly in games. Otherwise, it has very odd effects that essentially amount to really bad stutter or screen tearing, even if the FPS is high. Mostly what I'm running is WoW. For the life of me I cannot figure it out. The last time I had a rash of these problems, I system restored because even uninstalling and reinstalling the driver did not fix it. The system restore did work, however I had an inkling that I'd be dealing with it again, and sure enough I am, and this time I do not have a system restore that is before the last driver update. Has anyone had any experience with anything like this? I am running xfire 5870s, one of the older dual core I7's, and 4gb ram. Please help!

try updating the video card's firmware. I had an array of strange power issues before I did.

Definitely try this. I had a host of video related problems that support was unable to assist with. I updated the video firmware and every single driver crash related issue went away. (it was a refurb unit that shipped with bad video firmware)

Do you mean with the official dell firmware from 2010? I ended up reinstalling windows, and have not seen if I still have the issue, but I did reflash just in case. Will check.

It isn't generally referred to as firmware, but rather 'VBIOS' for video BIOS. If you haven't applied THIS update, you may still have a lot of problems.
