Finally wore down a Canadian phone rep and got a m17x for $1505 final, when the config cost 2020 after taxes . Im soo happy. Obviously its not maxed spec or anything, but its all i can afford and i love the look of alienware and it blows my 3 year old laptop out of the water. Lol this rep couldnt escape me, for the past week i got him in live chat like 10 different times, and he always answered me with "Welcome Back!" and each time i told him i wouldnt buy without a nice discount. 1 Week later he finally cracked after i got him on the phone for the 3rd time too LOL. Guess being a jackass like me pays off. Now hopefully it comes in perfect conditions and i dont run into issues like some people on this board.

So how much of a discount did he give you if you put aside all the promotions going on right now? Gratz on your new purchase!
-
I got 350 dollars off my purchase. Also there arent really any promotions going on for the canadian alienware site, unlike the US site, so i really pushed the rep hard. Then called in got another rep, and told them i was promised another 50 off, pulled out my info and he redid the order again.

I don't want to get into any kind of debate but I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend upgrading to the 1920x1080 screen. It will cost you over $400 later to do it. Everything else is great, it should be an extra $150 or so for 1080p screen.
Besides the resolution the quality of the 900p screen is pretty bad.
EDIT: typo -
I second this notion. Currently using the 1920x1080 screen and I must say it's quite awesome. You will probably hate the 1600x screen -
whats wrong with the 1600/900p one? Also i didnt really have any more money for that upgrade, unless i dropped the video card upgrade. Alienware is expensive for the specs you get
.

This link gives ya good information on the different screens you can get.
Help me choose my display
I understand the one you have chosen isn't as bright and the most obvious difference is resolution is lower. Color Gamut is 60% compared to the 1080p version which has 72%. I have heard some people on the forum indicate it is a lower quality monitor but I can't speak from personal preference. I decided to choose the 1080p version because of the consistent feedback on this forum that indicated dissatisfaction with the 1600x900 monitor. I do like the price you got thoughNot bad for Canada.

Until my laptop gets in tomorrow(fingers crossed) I won't be able to tell you the difference between the 1600x900 and the 1920x1080p, but I can say this. The screen I got when my first laptop arrived did look a little off. It just didn't look how a high quality screen should look. Granted it might be because i didn't toy with the settings but again, I had the laptop out of the box for just a few hours and even then I just did random things here and there to test it out.
I find it interesting that you spent all this time "wearing the Dell rep down" without checking your build against what people here recommend. Then again, neither did I on my first system, so I can't say much.
EDIT: oh and as far as Abduction/Mothership goes, I've always pictured it more as harnessing alien technology, whether it be killing them and taking it or opening up a trades deal . . . Considering I'm paying for it, I think the latter is more accurate. -
U will like it Templar man...very starkly different resolutions...

please post how you like the 1920 reion screen when it arrives since you would of had both to compare
Just Ordered- Awaiting for my abduction!
