    Hello,

After many months of saving $$$ i was so excited to order the laptop of my dream (finally) for hardcore gaming but i really think i screwed up during the process... My goal is to play current games and possibly future comming games on 1080p setting... i did order the MX-17 R3 with 1080p screen (60hz) with...heres the problem: G 460M GPU... I honestly did not know how bad the card was (btw i haven't received it yet just placed order two days ago and is in production...EED is 07/05/11)...

So my concern and question is... is the 460M a decent card to play games such as Aion online, SC2, BFBC2 in 1080p res with high settings?

If not and if i need to get the 6970... is it too late to change the order? is it def worth upgrading? or should i just keep the 460M and upgrade to the radeon later?

Sorry for the noobish post any help would be much appreciated!!

Aion is a joke its a dx9 game based off the cry engine. You do get laggy in heavy populated rooms and better cards do benifit a tiny bit but its more lag than anything.

BFBC2 in 1080P cant be sure about but I play it in 1366x768 all high 1xaa hbao off on a 9800M GTS with my cpu loaded enough to slow down rendering. Single player I got 45 or so fps, online it helps to turn down since for me its about 10 fps average less. My guess is with your new cpu easily handling that game while the game will be a gpu challenge you should still be fine with the 460M.

There will be other games to come out soon that might be eh, but thats also the end reality of laptop gaming. There is a bit of compromise unless you have a ton of money.

I would cancel the order and reorder with the 6970. You will be disappointed. The 6970 is a great card, #2 mobile gpu on the market. Now im not saying the 460m is a bad card but if your that concerned about gaming oh 1080p and high settings then you will be disappointed. I can't even max all the settings on 1080p, on some games. Most games I can but the 460 is half of what the 6970m is. Go to notebookcheck.com and look up your gpu. It will have a break down of all gpu's on the market and what they can do on certain games.

It's certainly not too late - call Dell and talk to them. They can cancel your order and set up a new one for you.

Yeah, you go back to the end of the line, but heck it's only taking about a week to get these machines right now anyway.

Also, keep in mind that once you do get your machine you have 21 days to return it if you're not happy. I originally ordered my M17xR3 with the 1600x900 screen and regretted that. After I had mine for 2 weeks, I called Dell up and said I wanted the free xbox 360. They told me to return the current machine for a full refund, and reorder with the screen I wanted (and get the xbox). Didn't cost me a dime, just some time.

yeah reorder, a single 460m wont give you 1080p high settings with good quality but the 6970 will give you that and more. look at this page it gives you a general idea on how the cards perform Computer Games on Laptop Graphic Cards - Notebookcheck.net Tech

i ordered the same 460m with 60hz screen. the 460m isnt that bad of a card, i just felt why spend the extra for the AMD when i could upgrade to the beast later, 485m/580m which is gonna be alot, so might as well spend less now and more later instead of spending more now and more later XD

If you have the funds, and are still able- cancel and get the 6970. You can't even play every *current* game at 1080P with max detail even with the 6970 (at least not at a frame rate that I consider acceptable subjectively- I don't benchmark)- so I would not bother with the 460 unless 3D is near and dear to you for some reason. Get the 6970 and accept the fact that you will need to reduce detail and/ or resolution for smooth frame rates on certain games now, and probably moreso in the future (case in point- Crysis 2 plays *ok* at 1600x900 with all details turned to max on my system. 1080P? Nice in small indoor areas for the most part, but once you go outside the frame rate gets too choppy for my tastes.

You know its funny but Crysis 2 runs well on my R1 with a GTX 260m. I think the 460m is a good card and it will run your games.

Personally, I would of held fire until the 560m makes an appearance if you are an Nvidia fan. Your best course of action is to cancel your order and go for the 6970, as advised here.

I have the 460 with some over clock and I have a blast playing my games in 3d. Sure I would like 60 fps in 3d but it still performs very nicely.

I was concerned with the 460 also but I wanted3d. I have been playing starcraft on hi with 3d and it is amazing! I am not a number watcher so I don't know the fps. But the game runs very smooth and is mindblowing in 3d

Reorder with the 6970m. If you saved for months, how come you didn't do your research into the product you were buying?

Well, you need much more than a decent card for hardcore gaming. 460 is not even remotely good enough for 1080p gaming. Generally speaking for hc fhd gaming you need a desktop machine.

I've read people ordering over the phone could get the 6970m. Not 100% sure about this though. Give it a try, you could always order one from the US.
