I got my 3D M17X yesterday and I've been testing out the 3d on everything and installing everything I want. The only problem right now I have is the HDMI in for the computer displays video for half a second, then cuts to black and only has audio (I've updated to the 285.62 driver). So, 2 questions:

    1. What driver do I need to go up (or go down) to to get the HDMI input working properly again.

    2. I have a 360 and PS3, would I be able to use the HDMI in to get 3d gameplay from the two consoles? If not supported from the nvidia drivers, are there any 3rd party drivers I can install to make this happen?

    nothing will support 3d in

3d is for on your alienware only - the hdmi in does not support 3d

i repeat, you cannot have 3d hdmi in - no 360 or ps3 in 3d will be played on your alienware -

if you want to play a pc game or 3d movie FROM your laptop on your laptop screen, that is your only option

there is no way to change this unless a new motherboard comes out that would support it which is very very very unlikely

Just curious as to why that is. I thought the only thing that was different about a 3D TV is the fact that it has a 120Hz refresh rate and supports HDMI 1.4, both of which this monitor and computer are perfectly capable of doing. Barring that, I'm still having the problems with HDMI input. Is the cause of it my driver? And what can I do to fix it?

I think I might've found the solution, but I need a little help. I'm trying to install the 280.26 driver (after reading it solved the hdmi input problem elsewhere) but it's saying my system isn't compatible, which it should be. is there anyway to get rid of my higher driver so it won't interfere with me installing an older one?

Just got off the phone with alienware trying to get the problem fixed, after a half-hour of booting up the computer in weird ways, they determined it wasn't a hardware problem(which was obvious since it could display the image, albeit for half a second), then kicked me over to a 3rd-party technical support who offered to help me get my 360 and PS3 "configured" to run properly for the oh-so-generous small fee of 89.99. So I'm kinda sick of finding a solution for this. I've seen on this forum and others it's a very common problem people are having with the release of new nvidia drivers, and I'm sure someone will eventually find a solution, but unless anyone knows how to fix it I'm done looking.

Finally got it working. For anyone else having this problem, go to Drivers | laptopvideo2go.com, download both the inf and driver, extract the driver, drag the inf into Display.Driver, then install as normal. I really hope they fix this in the newer drivers, I don't want to have to stay at a lower driver just to keep functionality :(

As long as their legal butts are covered under the warranty then I doubt they would care. The important thing is I got it working. Now I just hope A: People with this same problem get here so they can see the fix I put up and B: Nvidia fixes their newest drivers so as to avoid this problem.

Now that that's taken care of, back to the using the laptop as a 3DTV monitor. What's the problem with this? It has all the hardware requirements to do this, it just needs the knowledge to post process the feed that's coming in (top-down, side-by-side, whatever) into a 3d image and then use the 3D glasses to view it.

First of all, the HDMI in is not 1.4 only the output is. Second of all, the glasses are not Alienware 3D glasses so they will not work if the 3D controller is not working at the same time. The HDMI in is a pass through only at 60hz. Therefore 3D via HDMI in will not work.

Awesome, that pretty much answered all my questions! It's a shame though, would've liked this thing to be able to do every 3D thing under the sun, but I'm loving what it can do so far, and the HDMI in is still incredibly useful.

I'm unfortunately still having problems with my laptop. When I try to turn on 3D by running the setup wizard or doing the NVIDIA test, my computer crashes. Anyone know what could be causing this? Could it be because I switched drivers so many times trying to get the HDMI in working? And if so, is there anyway I can delete all the driver components and do a clean install?

I had that problem with the beta drivers, revert back to the stable drivers on nvidias website and that fixed the problem for me.

I just uninstalled the beta drivers, rebooted then install the stable drivers selecting the clean install option!

I was at 280.26, which was a stable release. I'd love to upgrade to the new ones but they don't support HDMI in.

I ended up doing alienrespawn to reset back to factory default. Tested it with the factory drivers and the 3D works fine. Installed 280.26 and start the wizard, and unfortunately it's doing red/blue 3D. How the hell did it get the idea in it's head that I would want that?
