Just got my M17x today, very excited but wait...
The edge of the left side of the palm rest is not sealed and it looks very...I dont know how to say it, broken?? I uploaded a photo to this and is this a common issue that everyone get? Or it is just me?

That looks ok, it just seems like a bit of grime has gotten into the gap. I have the same gap as well. Try sticking a needle or paperclip inside to try and slide the thing out.

When the parts are brand new they have tape on them to prevent damage, that looks like a bit of tape was left on when they put it all together and it is holding the gap open.

I had a similar thing with a bit of blue masking tape in one of the cracks, just pulled it out and all was well.

Might be easy enough to pull the palmrest off in order to get underneath it and prevent scratching things.

The palm rest on an R3 is much harder to remove than the previous Alienwares.

I agree with DR650SE to avoid any damages, scratches which may develop later, I would follow the guide on how to open it, remove the 'junk' and fix it back.
