Hello all !
Long time reader first time poster. I've been reading up on the m17x and alienware's products on this forum for ages. Love the tight knit community of alienware owners here, you guys truley care about the brand and your systems.
I read about all the problems and issues alot of people faced but ever since i was a young kid readin pc magazines i would look at alienware ads (among other pc dream machine companies like falcon sw) and hoped that one day i'd be able to own one of these babies.
Got my paycheck (first ever) and the first thing i did was pick up the m17x.
The thing is beautiful. I know next to nothing about modding or overclocking and all that jazz and i know alienwares are for the advanced users but i had to start somewhere.
I tried some games and saw that the preformance was actually underwhelming BUT having read these forums, i quickly solved the issue and got out of stealth mode. Games run incredibly well on this system - starcraft 2 , crysis and cataclysm all running on ultra like a dream.
just wanted to thank everyone posting on this forum, you guys provide so much information for new time buyers like me, i hope i can learn alot more from you guys.
peace !

Alienware is an unknown commodity here in Duabi, when the gentleman at the store was setting this baby up - a huge group gathered around to see this insane laptop haha.
oohs and aaahs while we were changing the keyboard lights and testing out the speakers ! -
Nice. Just one question: What kind of job do you have the the first paycheck got you an Alienware LOL.
-
I am in Dubai right now, where did u pick it up and for how much?
-
got it for 11k dhs -
Is that the same as the Moroccan Dirham on the currency converters? Comes out to about $1320 in USD, which is remarkably low for that setup.
Very nice on the paycheck tho, I remember making some good OT paychecks back in the day (my current job doesn't offer it often, unfortunately). Used to pull up to 90 hours a few years back for time-and-a-half. Made for some really fat paychecks once upon a time. How I wish I hadn't been so young and stupid when it came to spending them.
Good lord, I'm 24 and I sound old! At any rate, sounds like an excellent buy. I take it you play WoW (you said Cataclysm). Good expansion, unfortunately I was 85 within about 12 hours or so of release, and I'm pretty much raid ready now. Just waiting on the rest of my guild to catch up (slowpokes!). Crysis I could never really get into; it was, however, an excellent tech demo for my Alienware when I got it. I need to get off my bum and finish SCII but WoW has all those dailies to finish all the time.
I'm starting to really watch Steam sales though, great way to pick up some sick games on the cheap. I lost my copy of SW:KOTOR some years ago, and voila, Steam had it on sale for $2.50 the other day. Got Metro 2033, Bioshock, etc etc under similar circumstances. I have so many games now I don't think I'll ever finish them. I'm just happy to finally have a PC that can pretty much run anything I throw at it.
Ah well, it's late, I've been working all night and I'm rambling. I'll give myself a cease and desist for the moment. -
Very cool congrats on the alienware! I can't run wow on ultra I get like 5 fps unless the 820 is 10x faster than the i740 ! Lol at hitting 85 already.. I'm doing the opposite.. I haven't even started leveling yet. I'm going to wait until everyone is 85 and the ah and stuff normalize. All I do is pvp and arena though... All of wotlk and I stil don't know what this place called icc and toc etc is lol.

Welcome to the forums, nice setup you will be VERY happy. As far as paycheck go's good deal, I don't go for much over time anymore not that they don't offer it. The problem here is the old gov jumps the tax's up when you do they keep most of it past 7 hours.
Plus I'am to dam old to worry about over time any more
Luck on your new unit and again welcome to the Alienside..

Oh, and a happy new year to all. -
when he said 11k dhs he referred to about 3k usd (just for all the guys to know... 1 USD ~ 3.67 AED or Dhs.)
I live in Dubai too and in Canada as wellI got mine from Canada for aprox. 2500 + tax and a credit back of 150 CAD + 2 years warranty. Otherwise I could have taken mine from Dubai as well. They have them available in Dubai mall (anybody interested...).
Good luck with the new system and enjoy it!!!
