I wasn't really sure what I wanted, portablility or a desktop replacement I can play games on at friends houses, ect. But I compulsively bought this one once a 6990 popped up during a refresh (someone must have lost if from their cart). It has 8 gigs of mem, with windows 32bit... gonna put 64bit on it as I get it.

but for $1300 after taxes, i figured it was worth the risk. And I still get 21 days to decide if it is a keeper :)

Outstanding!!! Great buy! There are multiple 6970 systems right now. If you want one act fast. This is the best outlet sale I've seen. Better than the $250 off.

Great price! Look into hard drives. My system came with 5400 speed as well and after two days it was rather annoying.

Yeah, I already have a SSD and some other mechanical drives I planned to put in it from my old laptop. As well as another 8gigs i just ordered from newegg over the weekend for like $35. I didn't really want to buy a laptop with high amount of ram, since they usually charge a premium for more ram. So I had bought the ram before this deal came into my lap. So now i'll have 16 gigs :)

damn!!! If only I waited two days!.. I could have gotten mine $300 cheaper. Than again, I all the best configurations were pretty much gone today :/.

    I got this:

Intel Core i7-2720QM processor (2.20 GHz with Turbo Boost 2.0 up to 3.30 GHz)
320 GB SATA Hard Drive (7200 RPM)
    4 GB DDR3 SDRAM 1333MHz (2 DIMMs)
    2GB GDDR5 AMD Radeon HD 6990M
    Killer Wireless-N 1103 a/g/n 3x3 MIMO
    17.3 inch Wide FHD (1920 x 1080 60Hz) WLED Display
    9 Cell Battery

    for $1519 (without tax)

it would have been something $1200 but hey, its still pretty sweet deal!

I saw this, but did not act in time! Jealous. I was thinking of getting Asus G74SX, but now I might go the M17x R3 route in the outlet.

Same thing happened to me. I saw an m17xr3 with i7-2720qm, 6990m, blu-ray, 8gb, 320 hd, 1920x1080 on Wednesday night for $1,599. Couldn't believe the price and only saw the one available with 6990m, so I jumped on it. Added a 3-yr warranty for $299. Still happy with the price, but 20% off wouldn't have hurt. By the time I saw the coupon on Friday, things were pretty picked over.

exactly, I bought mine and like five minutes after the buy I saw yours, and I was like, damn!!! Blue-ray + 8gb RAM for $99 and wanted to switch, but hey, now that I think about it, Ill get 8gb HyperX @1866 and blue ray wont kill me. But I think that these two were just the best deals out there, I still dont know how they got to $1509 ($1599 respectively) for this GPU and CPU and monitor, its just ing great deal :D
I didnt buy the warranty thought as I was tight on budget and you can easily add it latter, so rather than buying something with gtx460m I went with this.
But man, damn FEDEX, the package arrived in my town this morning and I have to wait 3 days cause of the weekend and labors day... grrr

nice system! you found a system with 580's already in the outlet? I thought those only came out recently?

I wish mine had blueray. don't really care about the windows version much, just gonna put w7 64 bit ultimate using SLIC that is already part of the dell bios's.

Agreed. I just checked his previous posts, he didn't get that setup using the 20% off coupon. He had a previous issue, complained, and that system was his replacement. His post is misleading.

granted, but the price i paid is with the 20% off coupon. i bought an r2 920xm 5870's. and it had ALOT OF ISSUES! so after calling in they sent me out a simple system. i just had to state an issue with the differences in power. ie 920xm vs 2620. 560gtx vs 5870's CF so i did in fact only pay what i did for the r3.

i just had to take a longer route to get it. :D

in short, buy from the outlet and hope for the worst. lol

Very lucky indeed. That is not the norm. I've read many posts by others who had issues with outlet systems. They were offered weaker systems in return despite multiple phone calls and hours of complaining. Your outcome is ideal, but rare.

I highly doubt this. There is no way Alienware outlet would sell this for that price. The 580m alone is $800 bucks.

That's why it's so sick, if you would of read what happened then It would make sence. I have no reason to lie, as I'm sure many people do.
I ordered an R2 with max specs. 920xm and CF 5870's, but the screen was bad, the graphic cards were bad and the Bluetooth was also bad. Not to mention that the system was missing screws... Dell then sent me a simple system. 2620 and 560gtx, after about 1hr on the phone I was told that I would get the 580gtx with an 2820qm.

I know it sounds crazy, because it is! The cost of my r3 is over $3200 and the fact that I only paid 1280 is unreal!

Say, what do refurb'd units come with? Plugs? Hats? Mousepad? Sticker?

Just got my system today. so far seems all good. I noticed a few minor cracks to the edge of the bottom plate by the fan vents, other then that, it cosmetically looks perfect.

The only other possible issues was my gpu temps. They are hitting 100C in metro 2033 (which whatever the default settings are). The game plays fine, no shuddering, or slow downs. But it did crash once probably due to heat of the gpu. I've since installed afterburner and setup a fan profile, but it will reaches 100c even when fan gets to 100%.

Is that a normal temp for a m17x r3 w/o a laptop cooler under it? Or should I be concerned and put some better thermal paste on it?

Seems high. Even when I gamed on Crysis, it never got past 90c, and this was during July. Do you lift your lappy on top of a textbook?
