    Hi guys,

Its been a long time since i posted anything. I have owned 3 m17x R3 previously and currently I own a r4 with Nvidia 675m gpu. I am well aware of the infamous throttling history even prior to 580m. I am currently running bios A13 version and the latest release of Nvidia Driver.

Out of curiosity today, I tested my rig for throttling points using Furmark. I was very surprised to discover my throttling only occurs when it touches 97 and above.

I dont quite recall the exact temperature point at which throttling occurred notoriously on R3 and R4, including various GPUs but I know it was certainly way lower than 97 Celsius.

Your feedback would be good for brief discussion on this increased throttling point. Is is the same with the rest of you Aliens.

Thermal Shutdown is 105C for fermi gpu's. Also you should not being using furmark it is known to overload gpu's and get them to such high temps.

I am aware of the risk furmark poses if left unattended. Is the fermi thermal threshold mentioned by a general level for all fermi GPUs or are you referring specifically to gpus in alienware r3 and so forth. R3 onwards are known to have throttling various threshold limits independent of the actual limitation nvidia had set. This is the reason i was very surprised mine reached almost 100 Celsius.

That's just way too hot as I see it. I never go over 70c even with a mild OC. Start with looking at the cooling, clean out the fan and heat exchanger first then think about a repaste if it does not come down enough.

I agree with this, funmark is a bit dangerous, not recommended by us.

Alienware Thermal Shutdown set to the same as the GPUs, 105C. You should follow the steps in this article to avoid overheating issues, re-pasting would be a good idea too.

Yeah, the hottest my GPU (680m) hit under very heavy load (Elder Scrolls Online) is 85*C. But that is with the core clock at 958Mhz and the Vram at 2450Mhz. Everything maxed in game.

Every other game doesn't push it above 77*C.

I agree, repaste that thing asap if ya haven't.
