I realize this great machine isn't ideal or meant to be used on your lap. But because of my situation with the girlfriend, I have to spend time in the evening with her on the sofa while she watches her "X-factor" and "Dancing with the Stars" crap. She doesn't mind me zoning out my Alien, gaming on BF3 or Starcraft, as long as I'm next to her while she watches her lame shows. But this puts me in the situation where i have to keep my "Space Heater" M17x on my lap, which can be very discomforting from the scorching heat.

Any ideals/methods to keep it off the lap better? I've tried books to keep it directly off my lap with some relief. Sometimes i use various leg positions to keep them away from sensitive groin parts, but with little success. Conventional coolers are more intended for table applications and not the lap. Has anyone had success with mods with thermal re-pasting?

Please Help, otherwise this poor noob will have to stop gaming and watch DWTS and X-factor instead of doing something real productive like killing in Battlefield 3.

Please help with any ideals, i don't want to become sterile either from the extensive heat of my Alien.

This may not be as homegrown as using books, but I've purchased both the X4 and the Pug models from LapDawg. The X4 is my favorite of the two since you can configure it in many ways (just check the website). It's not suitable for gaming though if you need enough space for a mouse. The Pug is much wider which allows for a mouse but then you lose the configuration flexibility. For what it's worth, the build quality of the X4 doesn't match its price, but it does come with a lifetime guarantee. After 3 months of use, mine broke at the hinge, but the company promptly sent me a replacement leg. So for now I'm happy with it.

The LapDawg looks perfect, never knew this existed in my wildest dreams. Super thanks, a bit pricey, but I really like its multi-use. The bed setup looks great, i can now spend half the night in bed just gaming if i get it ... but then again getting up in the morning may be a new problem - i just sleep it off at work though

    Thanks

Glad I could help. But you may curse me later. If you do get it, please heed this advice: DO NOT fall asleep in bed with this thing. Otherwise, you'll undoubtedly roll over and toss the X4 and your precious M17 in a swan dive off the bed. With great laziness comes great responsibility :p

Didn't know that kind of thing exist, very nice.
As for the cooler, I use a notepal U3, which is really perfect for the M17x.
