Just thought I'd post my own stupid mistake in case anyone else does this.

Yesterday I upgraded my internet connection from copper to fibre. From 4mbps to a projected 40mbps. Well, after the upgrade I was getting exactly the same throughput (4.2mbps). Went through all the ISP hoops to find out why then I noticed that it was VERY consistent so it looked like throttling. Then I thought if there could be anything at my end causing this - oh, never really looked at this app (killer) as it was a freebie upgrade from dell and just seemed to work. It was throttling down everything based on the settings of my original line. Re-run the line-test and got my new big bandwidth - doh!

Yep, the Killer Network Manager distributes your bandwidth across programs but only if it knows your internet speed. If it still thinks you are on 4.2MBps then it will only allow that much through. I usually manually set it in the settings.

On another note, moved, and now I have 100MBps aaaaaw yeah!

No you haven't. I haven't done any tweaking lately. The GTX 680m Dell version is officially gimped. Swapped out to a 4GB version and it works well. Awaiting the i7 3940XM now for overclocking. Testing the A05 modded bios at the moment with some 1866Mhz ram running 9-10-9-27 :)

Damn, jealous. I want a FiOS connection. Ours seems to be FiOS to Copper connection. :( I'm only getting a solid 10MBPS. I want more!!

Cool, good to know. I'm still debating going with dell or getting a 4gb one. My worry is 3D. I know the r4 works but will it with a non-dell 680  Any idea?

Dunno what technology is being used here, it is DSL copper to the cabinet (then fibre) and I have an extra box between my router and the phone socket now but I'm getting 36-38Mbps so pretty sweet :D

Dude, I have 3D myself and the 4GB one works perfectly 3D included. Although there will be no turbo boost but that can be mitigated with a small hack I have come up with.

    Oh and:

If you want to disable that bit then disable Application Control in Advanced settings. After that it no longer manages the bandwidth. I turned it off since I tend to jump networks (different locations) with different speeds. I didn't want to have to go in there and change it all the time.

Cool, thanks, I'll do that - never really looked at it before but I guess I did at sometime and locked it in.

All y'all are making me cry. My max speed with AT&T DSL is 3Mbps. They can't go any higher for my area, or at least that's what the telephony tech said when he came and fixed our lines last spring. Add in the fact that Cox won't do any new add-on services until they settle the lawsuits with our city municipality, and we's little peoples are the ones getting screwed.

AT&T in my area is totally crap. I pay around 40 bucks for TWC and this is my speed.

I used to have AT&T before and their speed was just ridiculous. It was around 300Kb/s, for the same price.

Yeah, recently got back to the Uk from a 10 year stint in the states looking after around 350 mobile staff all across the states. Outside the big cities it's a crap-shoot as to what is available and the speeds. I did get FiOS at one point and it was fast, not sure of the speed, but expensive.

This costs me around the equivalent of $22 PCM.

Well I sure am! TBH I was happy enough with my 4mbps but the offer of 40 for an extra £6.00 was a no-brainer. The only time recently that I needed more speed was the MaxPayne 3 download - 28meg @ ~7 hours :(

Here is my FiOS connection. I love the service, HATE the customer service/billing depts with a passion. Unfortunately the product is good so I deal with the crap :( These are my speeds when wired, and when I'm on wifi, it drops down to maybe 20/15.

Hey, Herndon! I lived there for a few years before moving to Reston. Jimmy's!!

Ahh the delights of Telecom customer service in the US - they don't tend bother with customer service. I always gave VZ a strapline of 'We're so big, we don't care'. Very dodgy practices as well (not VZ specifically). I managed to get an 'undisclosed sum' out of an 'undisclosed global provider' for an 'undisclosed illegal practice' I discovered. 'Here, take this check and shut up' NDA. :D
