OK... So i got a killer wireless 1102 and got it installed in my m17x r1. I am now having random freezes that require a hard reset. the display just kinda locks and i get no response from anything. Im not having any other issues, the card connects to my home network just fine and i have no signal dropout or anything like that. This is what i have tried so far to fix my issue.

1)In the killer wireless network manager i have disabled the application monitoring and the pc monitor and logging. then removed the killer network manager from my startup group.

    and just now,

2)In the nvidia control panel, I added killernetmanager.exe to the 3d program settings so that it wouldnt conflict with my nvidia drivers.

If anyone out there can give me any advice, i would greatly appreciate it.

Not that i know of... the freeze usually occurs while checking email or opening internet explorer. I use firefox and chrome for most browsing, but i have to use IE for my work email and some other things, and thats when it locks... still testing it with the nvidia 3d setting hoping that has fixed the issue...

Hope so too. Tell me, do you have the nVidia Ethernet Diver installed? If you don't that's better.

I didnt think of that.... Yeah, the nvidia ethernet driver is installed, I occasionally need to use a hard connection on my laptop at work, so i didnt think i should uninstall it... Is there another driver i can use in its place for the ethernet connection?

The default windows driver is the best option.

I don't know if you remember but there are some compatibility problems between the Ethernet driver and the Broadcom driver. Same thing might apply here with the Killer.

It's either you had to uninstall it or do this:
    • Click the Start button, and then point to Settings, Control Panel, and then click Device Manager.
    • Click the plus sign next to Network Adapters, and then click NVIDIA nforce 10/100/1000 mbps ethernet adapter.
    • Click the Advanced tab.
    • Click Device sleep on disconnect, and then change the value to Disabled.
    • Click OK.

    Thanks katalin
I just checked it and it is set to disabled.... I have been working with my office outlook web access window open for the past few hours and it hasnt locked up... yet...lol
Im hoping that that the 3d settings add in fixed whatever conflict I was having... if i get another freeze, i will try uninstalling the nvidia ethernet driver and force a generic windows driver to install or something.... crossing my fingers that i dont have to though...lol

well i had another screen freeze today... so now, i have just disabled the nvidia ethernet driver in device manager to see if that will help... im not sure yet on how to get a generic windows ethernet driver to install since windows keeps wanting to give me the nvidia one... if it works with it disabled, i might just enable it only when i need a hard line hook up... we will see.
thanks for your help and input katalin, i would rep you but it tells me i have to spread the rep around some more first...lol

Don't worry fella, we'll get to the bottom of this :)

To force a generic driver uninstall the nvidia one first.
Go to Control Panel > Uninstall a program select nvidia drivers and select ONLY the ethernet driver (Modify or uninstall, i forgot )
Reboot and windows should install a generic one.

Also, if this still doesn't fix it, before throwing a shark at it, give the Atheros reference drivers a go.
Uninstall your Bigfoot driver+ software, reboot and try these

    Thanks katalin,
Im downloading the atheros reference drivers... Im going to wait to uninstall anything until tomorrow or it freezes again.
So far today since i disabled the nvidia ethernet driver, it has been acting fine, so if i dont get a freeze up, tomorrow the next step will be to uninstall the ethernet driver.
    Thanks again... :)

Edit: update: after a whole day of working correctly i got a freeze again... so i have uninstalled the killer wireless net manager and driver and installed the atheros reference driver.... hopefully this works....

Ok just as an update... in case anyone else runs into the same problems...
It looks like my screen freeze problems are over, Havent had one in a few days...

What i did was completely removed anything bigfoot or killer wireless on my m17x... Then ran ccleaner to clean the registry... rebooted... installed the atheros reference driver...
then, completely uninstalled my nvidia video drivers, physx drivers, and 3d drivers... rebooted... ran ccleaner.. rebooted... and installed the latest nvidia display driver set...

It seems to be a problem if the nvidia drivers are installed before the wireless driver... i dont know why, but once i unistalled the nvidia drivers and reinstalled them after the wireless driver everything is running good again...

I would suggest you to have you windows update up to date and turn off your antivirus prior installing the killer driver along with software.

Use the Bigfoot cleaner to removed any form of leftover registries.

This works like a charm to install Bigfoot/Killer Manager software and driver.

Sorry to resurrect a dead thread but I was wondering where u got the atheros reference drivers from? Iv got a killer 1202 and am suffering connection issues. I can only find the driver on the killer website. Also is it correct that I install the wireless driver then the nvidia drivers? Thanks

its cool, i hope i can help. I got the drivers from here

    Atheros & Zidas drivers

just click the atheros and zidas drivers link to get to the drivers page,
scroll down and look for the wireless network drivers, I believe you will find a driver version number 10.0.0.75 whql and just click the little disk icon next to the version number to download.

I had to install the nvidia drivers after the wifi card driver to stop a software conflict that was causing my display to freeze. You may not have that issue, It was just how I had to do it. If you have any issues I would suggest doing it that way just to see if it fixes any issue you have.

    Hope this helps.

Awesome thanks - before i saw ur post i did the following

    1. Installed DriverMax
    2. Completely uninstalled the Killer drivers then used the Bigfoot cleaner and ran CCleaner then restarted
    3. Used drivermax to find and install the most recent standalone driver (without the Killer software) then restarted

So basically i just wasted time using driver max instead of just using the link u sent haha

So far so good - no massive 2000ms spikes though i have yet to do an extended test

    Hi Everyone,

I experience similar problems with the killer atheros network card. The main issue is very high latency, sometimes one minute sometimes much more. The issue is usually absent after restart, but then it returns after a few minutes.

    I have dell xps l521x.
I have the killer atheros manager installed, and it says "network card is disabled", I don't know what it means. Windows identifies the network pretty well, although sometimes it says that the connecticity is "limited", where it should have been connected without any problems.
I experince this problem even though I'm connected through Ethernet.

The latency problems I suffer occur when I try to make any use of the network, for example, opening a new firefox window, or internet explorer, or pinging to google.com.
I have some problems with windows update too, maybe they're related.
