hey guys, isit just me or after swapping out my intel wireless card out for the killer wireless n1103, the range of my wireless will drastically decrease?

edit: I got a macbook air and a lenovo thinkpad x220 which always detect full bar from my room but with my alienware, at most it will detect 3 bars, sometimes even 2 bars which kinda affect the speed of my internet connection. is there anyway i can increase the range of the killer wireless n1103? thanks for the advice.

Update your drivers. Then check which bandwith your connecting on. I only get 3-4 bars on 5 Ghz, but I get full bars on 2.4 Ghz. Same card, same laptop, same distance. 2.4 Ghz travels thru walls better, but 5 Ghz has potentially higher thoroughput. It depends on your internet needs and preference.

First of all check the Frequency range of your Wireless router if it supports 5Hz.

5 Hz has a shorter range so its counter productive for you to use 5 Hz if you are already facing range issues.

Try switching the transmitting to channel to may six of higher. Testing different drivers on Killer can be quite a cumbersome work. But you got to do what you have to.

I believe in terms of range Intel excels...Killer excels within same room confines, but when obstructions are put in place and distance is increased the Killer ability diminishes.

Intel 6300 is the only card I have so far experinced phenomenal range ability. But Tom's Hardware review indicates Killer is better..

Yes there are too many variables to get wifi optimal.
here the killer works on 450 mbit maxing it out but then again im 10 feet away from the accespoint.

I get full bars through one pretty thick wall in my apartment. I'm on the 5Ghz band on my 1103 as well.

5Ghz band is a little weaker as it's expected to transmit a lot more data and will need more power to boost the signal.

Depending on your router you might be able to boost the signal if you need.

Or you can also get a repeater.

The Alienware rep I talked to told me that the Intel 6250 had a better range but the Killer 1103 has better connection for gaming, like running a lan cable to game. He knew what he was talking about and told me to just go with the 6250 if I'm gonna be taking my computer to school and stuff and since most of my gaming will be done at home, I'm better off to switch to lan cables with that.
