I have seen a few reviews on the SSD but no one really using them so I decided to be a guinea pig on with my new M17xR3 lol. I realize it uses the same controller as the Vertex 3 so what exactly are the issues with the Vertex 3? I know this drive is suppose to have a newer firmware(cant actually tell what the firmware is since I'm use to intel drives).

First off the drive itself is "pretty" not that is matters since i will be buried under everything but it very well built. After installing I had to change the bios from RAID to AHCI. In the RAID setting I was getting system freezes. My second observation is now im getting various lockups and BSODs. They are not constant but happen.

Any thoughts, things you would like me to test, or changes I can make to help along with the issues im having?

What is the Windows boot time and can you do a CrystalDiskMark run?

Now I would have thought it would be on par with the Vertex 3 and based on the reviews I saw actually exceed the Vertex 3. Not sure if this is because of the Intel Chipset or maybe I might have a slower drive due to the controller firmware. Now it doesn't seem slow by any means but I am always looking for the best performance. Any tweaks to be had for the SandForce drives?

Try the JJB tweak. Also there are some SSD optimisation pages out there. Looking forward to getting this for my R3.

Sorry for the double post, @CleanSweep did you need to perform any fixes to get your drive working? I mean it is SandForce and with their track record...

Did you update to the latest firmware? I read they released new firmware right after the launch an it supposedly makes this drive outperform the Vertex 3.

Thats the thing I cannot find where the firmwares even are. There is nothing on Kingston's site or via a google search. You have a link for it? Thanks

Does your box say 550MB/510MB for the speeds?

My box says 525/480 for speeds on the cover. I assume thats what you are asking.

Well, it may be a misprint and your drive, along with the rest, should have the new firmware already. I read this article when it was published but I missed the update. Check it out for yourself.

Nice! Newegg had it for $215 After Rebate so thats when I snagged mine. I see its down to $220 After Rebate. Very curious to see your benchmarks compared to mine.

Thanks. Does it matter that the sequential write is lower than advertised? I believe it's supposed to be a max of 510MB/s?

Well CrystalDiskMark doesn't get close to the advertised numbers. You should try Atto AS SSD benchmark as that is where all the brands get their numbers to begin with.

Interesting. You ran the benches on your Desktop or your R3? Just ran the ATTO bench. Looks like we are in the same ballpark. One of the better SSDs I have used and fast. No issues as of yet :)

I ran them in my desktop, but I think I still have a few things to work out to make it faster.
