Hi guys, just a couple of questions, does anybody else also experience dimming of the display after the UAC Prompt?

for example: I double clicked the Guild Wars 2 shortcut, the UAC will prompt asking permission if i will allow the program to make changes to the computer, then after clicking OK the display will boot.
I tried setting the UAC level to the lowest point, rebooted, but still the problem persists. Tried googling for solutions but cannot find anything that solves the dimming issue.

    TL;DR:
    Status : Fixed! :D

The main problem is on the faulty Nvidia Stereoscopic 3D Driver not UAC.
You can find the solution here.
Also, check out MickyD1234's explanation: ( reference link )

"I've seen this with the recent NV drivers. The flashing is the display switching to 3D mode even if you have turned it off in-game. When exiting the game it does not always reset and the display is dimmer and the brightness control does nothing.

I found that running the 3D test in the driver resets the display and all is well again. I just installed V310.70 and it seems to be fixed, but switching out of a game will always leave the display dim with no brightness control - unless you disable the 3d service."

    ------
**The solution or the problem may not be applicable on your machine, I am guessing that the context of this problem is based on 3D-capable models of M17x R4.

yes. the dimming of display. I read somewhere that windows will go into "Secured Desktop" state (dimmed state) after UAC prompt. it is annoying. Do you have the same problems?
My user account is administrator and still every almost every .exe the UAC prompts. CPU-z, GPU-z etc etc. lol

I tried making standard user account, still the problem persists.

Also, another question, if you look at this video, how come right after booting up, the windows doesn't ask for password, it boots up straight to your desktop.

I've never experienced such thing.. Maybe because I always disable UAC prompts haha, I hate pop ups and random prompts.

To disable it --> type UAC in you start menu and lower the bar all the way.

Did that, but still it prompts on CPU-z, but not on Steam and Guild Wars 2, but upon clicking Steam or Guild Wars 2, the screen flashes several times, then it dims. Kinda like the flash you get when there's a prompt.

I am seriously considering reformatting my laptop :( im getting frustrated. can anybody help.

I have the same problem as this guy.

Which M17x revision do you have?

Also, which GPU do you have and what driver are you running?

    m17x r4

I saw this guide : click here.

I followed it and i found the "Windows Service" that's causing my problem, its the nvidia stereoscopic 3d driver service, I disabled it and rebooted my system, then BOOM! it doesnt dim anymore,

But..... I am a bit concerned, my m17x r4 is 3d capable and has 120hz refresh rate and that is very important to me, will disabling my service wont break my machine?

    Well that was fast!

If you run a 3D application the service should be forced to run again, have you tried any yet?

Have you tried the enable/disable 3D shortcuts in the Nvidia Corporation folder under the start menu?

You mean any 3D applications like 3d games? If that's what you mean, then yes, i tried, played CS:GO and Left4Dead2.
But if you mean the enabling of 3d screen on a 3d game, then no sir, I haven't tried that one.
    Thanks for the fast replies!

Wow. Thank you for this information. I will try that!

Also I don't know about the 120hz screens but the 60hz screens, the backlight dims and brightens automatically (to a certain extent), for example when its a bright white screen overall like this website the backlight stays at the brightest but when its prodiminatly darjk content being displayed on the screen such as a UAC prompt the screen's LEDs dim.

I did see a setting to switch this off, but I need to check where I found it.
