I'm not 100% sure, but I haven't heard anything about Dell using LG for their RGB screens. I think they're still using Samsung exclusively... Someone else here asked about that, and the consensus was Dell doesn't offer an LG screen yet.

LG is not used in the M17x. I think only the M6500 has that.

See, I stand corrected... It appears Dell does use LG, just not offered with AW systems yet.

The model which is found on the back is LP171WU5 however I do not know the dell part number. It was used in the M6400 though. I found a bunch on ebay for around $100 to $150, make sure to buy exact part number not compatible. It should work with the R2 but I haven't tried it yet and won't until they release CF 5870's. I will definitely attempt to replace the mediocre samsung though. Here is my thread discussing the same thing.

Couple of questions here. I would hate to base quality on price but.... 1st, why is everyone hating on the Samsung RGB all of a sudden.. There have been numerous threads where people were raving about how a nicely calibrated M17x R2 RGB screen couldn't be beat. 2nd, how could an LG RGB screen go for $100-$150 on ebay when the Samsung RGB goes for $1000??? Doesn't make any sense to me. You would replace a $1000 screen for a $100 one? I read your original thread.. I know you dislike the white on the Samsung, but the whole thing doesn't make much sense..

The Samsung RGB goes for $1000 where? Both are similar but the LG is superior in my eyes. It is not simply replacing a $1000 screen with a $100. I'm sure if you bought through Dell then the LG would be a lot more expensive, should I pay $1000 for the LG instead of $100 because the samsung is $1000? When the LG first came out I remember it being in the $700-1000 range but that is no longer the case.

There is no way that the LG screen for $150 is RGB.

    Sorry.

I think in this case the Samsung's price is caused by scarcity. If you poke around Google Shopping or just eBay you can find Samsung 17" LED screens for roughly the same amount as the LG one, however nobody really knows if it is compatible to the M17x.

The one that you're quoting is from a reseller that is obviously jacking up the price for his own profit. I'm sure Dell probably jacked the price up when selling it to him too.

Sorry but unless you have proof that any of the LP171WU5 you look up are not RGB then you're wrong. LP171WU5 is RGB ONLY. It 8-bit, 16.7mil colors. Go look it up. There is no such thing as a white LED LP171WU5. If I am wrong please provide proof, I would like to save $150 for sure.

You're correct that the e-bay listing includes "the kit" (webcam etc).. When you get it from Dell, it's listed as: 0CWMH ASSEMBLY..., LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY..., 17WUXGA, RED/GREEN/BLUE..., M17X10 ...

I can tell you that although it says "assembly" it basically only includes the display.. It does NOT include a webam or backing... So it still goes for around $1000 for the display only.
